In the absence of a certificate of accreditation for any reason at the time of the first graduation, students may be issued a “standard diploma” or a “state diploma”, which, when checked in the federal database of state-issued educational documents, may be declared invalid.

Accreditation of university branches occurs in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation together with state accreditation of parent educational institutions, because they are their subdivisions. Information about the accreditation of the branch, as well as about its accredited educational programs, is indicated in the Appendix to the accreditation certificate of the parent higher education institution. The parent university, in turn, is obliged to transfer to the branch a certified copy of the certificate of state accreditation with attachments.

Public accreditation of an educational institution represents recognition of the level of an educational institution or its merits by any public or professional organizations, unions, and associations. Public accreditation is very important for the prestige of an educational institution, but cannot replace state accreditation and does not entail any guarantees from the state.
