"Prasicide-suspension Plus" for dogs. Complex anthelmintic drug. Prazicide - tablets for cats and kittens: instructions for use and reviews

Composition and release form

1 ml of Prazicide contains the active ingredients: praziquantel - 1.5 mg, febantel - 15 mg, pyrantel pamoate - 15 mg, as well as excipients. Externally, Prazicide is a light yellow suspension. During long-term storage, separation may occur, which disappears when shaken. The drug is sold in 5 mm polymer bottles with screw caps. The cardboard box contains a dispenser syringe and stickers for the veterinary passport.

The drug Prazicide effectively destroys helminths in the body of kittens.

Effect of the drug

After administration, praziquantel is quickly absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract and reaches a high concentration in the blood plasma within 1-3 hours. The substance is then actively distributed in the kitten’s tissues and excreted from the body in the urine during the day. Pyrantel pamoate acts longer due to difficult absorption in the gastrointestinal tract and is excreted in feces.

The mechanism of action of the drug is based on the effect on the neuromuscular activity and metabolism of helminths. The optimally selected composition of active substances guarantees low toxicity of the product for pets.

The components of the drug Prazitel paralyze helminths and promote their removal from the body.

Indications for use

If your kitten is stunted, gets tired quickly and suffers from digestive problems (constipation, bloating), it is possible that he has worms. A kitten can become infected with worms even if it does not go outside at all. Not only raw meat and fish serve as a source of infection, but also dirt from the owners’ shoes that come from the street and even flies that kids love to hunt for. Also, cats themselves can transmit helminths to their cubs through milk.

Prasicide should be given to the kitten orally once in the morning with food or injected into the root of the tongue with a syringe. The dosage is calculated according to body weight: 1 ml of the drug per 1 kg of kitten weight. The bottle should be shaken well for one to two minutes before use. No preliminary preparation is required.

The drug Prazicide is poured into the kittens' mouths in the dosage prescribed in the instructions.

For preventive and therapeutic purposes when keeping kittens in groups (in nurseries, etc.), treatment should be carried out 2 times with an interval of 2 weeks. For nematodes, treatment is carried out once; for cestodes or mixed nematodo-cestodes, the kitten should be treated once a day for three days in a row.

Advantages of the drug

Main advantages of Prazicide:

Prazicide is well tolerated by animals and is even liked by them due to its pleasant sweet taste. Individually, kittens that are sensitive to any component of the drug may experience allergic reactions. If a reaction occurs, the kitten is given antihistamines.

Prazicide is contraindicated in emaciated animals and kittens under 3 weeks of age.

In case of an overdose, a kitten may experience the following conditions:

  • refusal of food;
  • heavy salivation;
  • gastrointestinal disorders.

If these symptoms occur, detoxification treatment is required.

It is not recommended to treat kittens under three weeks of age for worms. It is worth waiting until complete recovery if the kitten has an infectious disease, has not fully recovered, or is too exhausted. If an animal has shown hypersensitivity to the drug, Prazicide should no longer be given. You should also refrain from using the drug if you are being treated with piperazine derivatives or other drugs that inhibit cholinesterase.

Storage conditions and shelf life

Prazicide should be stored in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight, at a temperature of 0-25 ºС. The suspension must be inaccessible to animals and children. Do not leave the suspension near food and feed. The shelf life of the medicine is 2 years.

Important. Worms in kittens are not only a problem for pets, but also pose a serious threat to human health. Toxacorosis and echinococcosis, migrating throughout the human body, can enter organs, causing pathologies. Children are at greater risk than adults, as they are more willing to communicate with pets. They are much more likely to become infected. Therefore, anthelmintic prophylaxis must be carried out every quarter - once every three months.

When a person decides to tame a four-legged friend, he should take a set of measures to eliminate unwanted and unexpected “tenants” in the puppy’s body. Thus, experienced dog breeders always adhere to the rules for caring for a newly born litter from the first months of life: they remove worms, treat the fur against it, and have it treated by a veterinarian against distemper. What means are best to use when performing anthelmintic surgery? Prazicide tablets are ideal for this type of pet treatment.

Brief description, composition and dosage form of the drug

Tablets with a total weight of 500 mg are produced with the following dosage: praziquantel in the amount of 45 mg/g, pyrantel pamoate in the amount of 150 mg/g, as well as a number of additional components: lactose and microcrystalline cellulose

The anthelmintic is an oral tablet. The medicine for the treatment of helminthiasis is a round, flat tablet, slightly yellowish in color, with two intersecting dividing lines on one side of the tablet.

Did you know? Z Dog intestinal disease diphyllobothriasis is caused by cestode worms Diphyllobothrium latum, which can reach a length of 6 m.

Another active component, pyrantel pamoate, changes the polarization of the neuromuscular ganglion blocker, which automatically leads to paralysis of the helminth muscle mass.
The absorption of praziquantel by the dog’s body is almost instantaneous (about 1–4 hours) and occurs in the gastrointestinal tract, from where it spreads to other organs and tissues of the four-legged friend. Throughout the day, this substance is eliminated from the pet’s body during urination.

At the same time, pyrantel pamoate is characterized by a low degree of absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, and therefore is able to act on helminths located directly in the intestines for a longer period of time. The dog leaves the body along with the feces.

Anthelmintic medication belongs to the category of dangerous substances of moderate impact. If the correct dosage is observed, the medicine does not cause inflammation of the mucous membranes of the pet’s pharynx and esophagus, allergic reactions, chemical burns, and does not harm the development of the fetus during pregnancy.

Veterinarians use this remedy to treat helminthiasis in dogs produced by round and tapeworms. Prazitsid deworming tablets for dogs are suitable for the treatment and prevention of recurrence of cestodiases and nematodes.

Directions for use and dosage

It is advisable to try to mix Prazicide into your dog’s morning food. The amount of medication per dose is calculated based on the dosage of 1 tablet per 10 kg of animal weight. There is no need for your pet to fast before taking medication.

In order to prevent the establishment of worms in dogs, it is most effective to administer the substance once every three months, as well as on the eve of repeated vaccinations. Treatment for nematodes and cestodes is carried out in the presence of symptoms.

In severe forms of helminth infection, it is worth repeating the course of treatment with Prazicide after a ten-day period.

Safety and personal hygiene measures

When carrying out anthelmintic therapy, you should not be intoxicated, smoke indoors or eat food. After the procedure, you must thoroughly rub your hands with soap and rinse with running water.
If a person is allergic to the components of the drug, in case of involuntary use of an anthelmintic, you should contact the nearest hospital as soon as possible (taking with you the instructions or packaging of the medicine). If the medicine comes into contact with a person's eyes or skin, the contact area should be rinsed with plenty of water.

Contraindications, overdose symptoms and side effects

Allergic symptoms in pets with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug can be induced extremely rarely. If an allergy does appear, the veterinarian will prescribe antihistamines to remove signs of an allergic reaction.

Important! Contraindication to therapy« Prazicide» is the pregnancy of an animal in the first half of gestation and earlier than 20 days after birth. You should not give the medication to puppies under 1 month of age, or to dogs weakened by recent illnesses.

In this case, Prazicide should be stopped. With a significant overdose of the drug, the dog may experience all the symptoms of toxic poisoning: impaired or lack of appetite, excess saliva, diarrhea or constipation, as well as loss of strength and a depressed state.
In case of similar symptoms, the animal’s body is detoxified at the veterinary hospital.

Interaction with other drugs

Do not mix anthelmintics with piperazine derivatives and medicines that suppress liver function.

Storage period and conditions

The place for storing Prazitsida tablets should be dry, without daylight, without access to animals and children. The anthelmintic Prazicide is best preserved at temperatures ranging from -10 °C to +20 °C, away from the food of our little brothers and human food.

If the therapeutic agent is kept in the manufacturer’s packaging, then the maximum shelf life if the above standards are met will be 3 years.

It is worth noting that veterinary hospitals may suggest this drug for the treatment of helminthiasis, but the owner himself will have to give the medicine to his pet.
Do not forget that after curing your dog of helminths in time, it is also necessary to promptly prevent infection with these harmful worms, since their presence has a detrimental effect on the general condition of the animal.
