Topic in English "Ecological Problems - Environmental problems". Topic Ecology

Since ancient times Nature has served Man, being the source of his life. For thousands of years people lived in harmony with the environment and it seemed to them that natural riches were unlimited. But with the development of civilization man’s interference in nature began to increase.

Large cities with thousands of smoky industrial enterprises appear all over the world today. The by-products of their activity pollute the air we breathe, the water we drink, the land we grow grain and vegetables on.

Every year the world industry pollutes the atmosphere with about 1000 million tons of dust and other harmful substances. Many cities suffer from smog. Vast forests are cut and burn in fire. Their disappearance upsets the oxygen balance. As a result some rare species of animals, birds, fish and plants disappear forever, a number of rivers and lakes dry up.

The pollution of air and the world’s ocean, destruction of the ozone layer is the result of man’s careless interaction with nature, a sign of the ecological crises.

The most horrible ecological disaster befell Ukraine and its people after the Chernobyl tragedy in April 1986. About 18 percent of the territory of Byelarus were also polluted with radioactive substances. A great damage has been done to the agriculture, forests and people’s health. The consequences of this explosion at the atomic power station are tragic for the Ukrainian, Byelorussian and other nations.

Environmental protection is of a universal concern. That is why serious measures to create a system of environmental security should be taken.

Some progress has already been made in this direction. As many as 159 countries - members of the UNO - have set up environmental protection agencies. Numerous conferences have been held by these agencies to discuss problems facing ecologically poor regions including the Aral Sea, the South Urals, Kuzbass, Donbass, Semipalatinsk and Chernobyl.

An international environmental research center has been set up on Lake Baikal. The international organization Greenpeace is also doing much to preserve the environment.

But these are only the initial steps and they must be carried onward to protect nature, to save life on the planet not only for the sake of the present but also for the generations future.

Topic "Ecological problems"

The word “Ecology” comes from the Greek language and means “the study of the place we live in”. So, there is no person on Earth who is not affected by ecological problems. For example, air polluted by plants will travel for a long distance with wind, the heavy particles will get into rivers and seas.

Pollution of the sea is the most dangerous. The regions that are most loaded with sea traffic are very dirty. For example, the Baltic sea is the dirtiest zone on the planet. The radioactive leak at Fukushima, Japan has led to the death of many fishes and other aquatic beings.

The cutout of forests, contamination of the seas and intense burning of coal has shifted the balance of the oxygen, ozone and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, making the ozone “shield” of the planet thinner. It results in global climate changes. Debates are still being held whether the “Global warming” is real, but every year there comes another evidence of the warming - the ice mounts melt at the poles, raising the global sea level.

You, of course, may say that you can’t affect the production of plants and factories much. But there is also the ecology of your home and your workplace. You shouldn’t pour dangerous chemicals to the ground - it will “die”, become infertile. Do not throw away batteries - send them to the recycling center. There are often special containers for batteries in major malls. Generally, do not waste resources - like take a shower, not a bath, turn down the water when you brush your teeth. Turn off electric devices that you do not use. Take care of the health of your environment.

Deforestation, sea pollution and intensive coal burning have shifted the balance of oxygen, ozone and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, making the planet's ozone “shield” thinner. This leads to global climate change. There is still debate whether “Global Warming” is real, but every year there is new evidence of warming - ice mountains at the poles are melting, global sea levels are rising.

Our environment is constantly changing. This is the fact we cannot deny. The way technological progress influences the environment is not the most favored.

Today humanity is facing numerous environmental problems. If we do not pay attention to these problems right now, we may face even bigger natural disasters in the future.

Pollution

Pollution is one of the biggest problems. Plants and motor vehicles are number one pollutants. Their emissions pollute the environment. Oil spills and acid rains make the World Ocean dirty.

Global warming

Global warming is the result of human activity. It is characterized by rising temperatures of the oceans and earth’s surface causing rise in sea levels and melting of polar ice cover. Apart from that, floods, desertification and excessive snow are also signs of global warming.

climate change

Global warming causes the rise of another serious problem, known as climate change. Climate change can lead to the development of other harmful effects in our lives, such as the occurrence of new diseases and change in seasons.

Deforestation

Today forests cover about 30% of land. Every year this figure decreases more and more. People clear out new territories for residential buildings, new plants and factories. We must realize that deforestation causes the extinction of animals and plants.

Ozone layer depletion

Ozone layer protects our planet from the sun’s harmful rays. Due to atmospheric emissions of the so-called CFC’s, the ozone layer depletes. This results in the occurrence of the holes in the ozone layer.

Today CFC's are banned in many industries. However, we must remember that if this problem is not taken under control, harmful rays of the sun will easily penetrate the atmosphere. The biggest hole in the ozone layer is located above the Antarctic.

The environment around us is constantly changing. We cannot deny this fact. Technological progress does not have the most favorable impact on the environment.

Today humanity is faced with many environmental problems. If we do not pay attention to them in time, we risk facing much more serious disasters in the future.

Pollution

Pollution is one of the biggest problems. Factories and cars are the most harmful pollutants. Oil spills and acid rain pollute the world's oceans.

Global warming

Global warming is the result of human activity. It is characterized by rising temperatures of the oceans and land surface, leading to rising water levels and melting ice sheets. Moreover, floods, desertification and excessive snowfall are also signs of global warming.

Climate change

Global warming brings with it another serious problem – climate change. Climate change may cause other harmful effects on our lives, including new diseases and changes in weather patterns.

Deforestation

Today, 30% of the earth's surface is covered with forests. Every year there are fewer and fewer of them. Man cuts down forests, freeing up space for the construction of new houses, factories and enterprises. We must think about the fact that deforestation leads to the extinction of animals and the disappearance of plants.

Ozone depletion

The ozone layer protects our planet from harmful rays from the sun. Due to the release of so-called freons into the atmosphere, the ozone layer is thinning. This causes holes to appear in the ozone layer.

Currently, freons are practically not used in production. However, it is worth remembering that if this problem is not brought under control, the sun's harmful rays will be able to freely penetrate into the atmosphere. The largest ozone hole is located over Antarctica.

Our planet is home to millions of different plant and animal species that are connected in different ways. Together they form complex natural world. Unfortunately, cohabitation with humans leads to environmental problems. The most spicy Among them are pollution, acid rain, destruction of wildlife, lack of natural resources and global warming. These problems are interconnected, since everything in the natural world depends on each other.

Wild plants and animals live in special conditions called habitats. Today people are changing their environment to satisfy one's own needs- build farmland and big cities, for example. They also destroy wildlife through mining and road construction.

Many species - fish, reptiles, insects, birds, mammals - are rapidly disappearing. It is reported that by 2030, 25% of all animals, birds and insects could become extinct.

All living organisms inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. We produce carbon dioxide when we burn something. Trees take this gas from the air and produce oxygen. However, over the past few years, people have cut down and burned large areas of evergreen forests.

Many plants are known to be endangered or on the verge disappearance. There are 9 million square meters in the world. km. evergreen forests. Paper and cardboard are made from wood. Every year more than 100,000 sq. km. forests are cleared for various purposes, and many forests are so deeply damaged that they are unlikely to be restore.

Acid rain occurs when gases from power plants and vehicles mix with oxygen and moisture in the air. Acid rain poisons and kills life in lakes, rivers and forests, as well as destroying surrounding plant life. The problem can be controlled by reducing the level of exhaust gases and gases emitted by power plants.

World temperatures are rising every year. This phenomenon called global warming. As the planet warms, water in the oceans will take more space, and water from glaciers and polar ice will begin to melt. This could cause sea levels to rise and many habitats to disappear underwater.

The cause of global warming is the greenhouse effect. It works like this: sunlight delivers heat, which warms the atmosphere. Some of the heat is returned to space. Today, the air surrounding the Earth has become significantly warmer because heat cannot return to space. Therefore, winter and summer temperatures have become higher in many places.

As a result, the climate in different parts of the world changes every year. These changes could be dangerous for our planet, which needs protection. Actions you can take, include restrictions on deforestation and emissions levels, as well as individual human ecology.

Actual problems

E Environmental problems cause enormous harm to the environment. Among the most pressing are the ozone layer, acid rain, global warming, toxic air pollution, loss of forests, contamination of groundwater with chemicals, soil destruction in some areas and threats to flora and fauna.

Types of pollution

The Earth is home to millions of living creatures that make up the complex natural world. Nowadays, people are trying to change their environment to satisfy their needs - to create agricultural land or build cities. They pollute and destroy wildlife habitats by digging for coal mining or building roads. It is known that a quarter of all plants are at risk of extinction. There are different types of pollution: water, air, land and radioactive.

Acid rain

Acid rain occurs when toxic gases from nuclear power plants and car exhaust mix with oxygen and moisture in the air. These gases become part of the water cycle and can be carried by the wind for a long time until they fall into acid rain, which kills life in lakes, rivers and forests and destroys plant life.

Global warming

World temperatures are rising every year. This so-called global warming is caused by the accumulation of gases and evaporation of water in the atmosphere. These gases form a layer that reflects heat back to the ground. As the planet warms, polar ice caps will begin to melt. This could cause sea levels to rise and many habitats to disappear underwater.

Conclusion

Environmental problems have no borders. However, environmental disasters can be avoided if people increase their environmental knowledge and everyone understands that the beauty of nature is very fragile. Governments must take serious action to combat environmental pollution.

Ecological problems

Problems

Ecological problems are causing great damage to our environment. Among the most urgent ones are the ozone layer, acid rains, global warming, toxic pollution of the atmosphere, disappearance of forests, contamination of underground waters by chemical elements, destruction of soil in some areas, and threat to some flora and fauna representatives.

Types of pollution

The Earth is a home to millions of different kinds of living things, which make up the complex world of nature. Nowadays people try to change their habitats to suit their own needs – to create farmlands or build cities. They create pollution and destroy wildlife habitats by digging the ground up for mining, or by building roads through them. A quarter of all the plants in the world are known to be in a danger or threatened with extinction. There are different types of pollution: water pollution, air pollution, ground pollution and nuclear pollution.

Acid rain

Acid rain falls when poisonous gases from power stations and vehicle exhausts mix with oxygen and moisture in the air. These gases become part of the water cycle and may be carried a long way by the wind before they fall as acid rain, which kills wildlife in lakes, rivers, and forests, and damages the surrounding plant life.

Global warming

World temperatures are currently rising every year. This so called global warming is caused by the building of gases and water vapor in the atmosphere. These gases form a layer that reflects the heat back to Earth. As the planet warms up, the polar ice caps will start to melt. This could cause sea levels to rise and many habitats will disappear under water.

Conclusion

Ecological problems have no borders. However, disaster environments can be avoided if people broaden ecological education and every person understands that the beauty of nature is extremely fragile. Governments must take serious actions against pollution.
