Important information about treatment in Heviz. Lake Heviz is a balneological resort in Hungary, welcoming visitors in summer and winter.

A small city located less than 200 km from Budapest, famous for its balneological effects on the human body, is Heviz (Hungary). The treatment is carried out in the waters of the exclusive lake of the same name (thermal), the composition of which cannot be overestimated. This is the largest European healing reservoir, which contains many valuable microelements. Due to warm underwater springs, the lake is never covered with ice and is available for treatment throughout the calendar year.

What is being treated here?

The whole of Hungary is proud of this resort. The treatment offered here helps with a lot of different diseases, although the main emphasis is on problems of the musculoskeletal system. But they will also help patients with psoriasis and those who suffer from ailments in the field of gynecology (courses of bathing and applications of therapeutic mud have been developed for this purpose). In this secluded corner of Hungary, disorders of blood flow in the veins, muscle inflammation, nerve inflammation and even periodontal disease are also treated.

Heviz water - additional benefits

You can drink water from Heviz, and it helps with some abnormalities in the urinary and digestive systems. Let us clarify right away: doctors avoid such prescriptions; these diseases are not included in their specialization. But the healing qualities of water from Lake Heviz (Hungary) are beyond doubt. Treatment is described in many sources.

The unique healing properties of lake water were known back in the Middle Ages. The resort as such, one might say, was formed at the end of the 18th century, when Heviz (Hungary) began to gain fame. Treatment then became available to the still few guests of the local count.

Do not forget that the water in the lake is still intended for treatment. It is strictly not recommended for even the healthiest person to swim in it for long hours. If there are no chronic diseases and you can simply spend a maximum of one and a half hours in the pond. If there are abnormalities in the functioning of any organs, bathing is regulated by doctors in sanatoriums in the city of Heviz (Hungary). Treatment, like staying in water, depends in this case on the type and severity of the disease. And you should not neglect medical recommendations!

Contraindications for Heviz

Like any medical procedures, Hungarian balneology will not benefit everyone. First of all, it is not recommended for pregnant women, children under 14 - in order to avoid consequences in the form of tuberculosis, hypertension and hemophilia are also on the list of contraindications. Water procedures in the lake are also prohibited for people with open wounds and asthma. However, experienced resort doctors themselves will warn you about everything.

Where can I visit?

Sightseeing lovers will find a variety of museums, from a winery and confectionery to the Museum of Africa, the palace of the “founders” of the resort, Festici, ancient fortresses (Tatika, Rez) and many other interesting excursions.

To summarize, we can say that the sanatoriums, nature and service will not disappoint those who decide to visit the pearl that Hungary gave birth to - Heviz. Treatment prices are included in the cost of living, doctors are attentive to their patients and take into account all the nuances of the course of their illnesses, and in their free time from procedures there is where to go, what to see and what to do. And it’s not that expensive to visit this blessed land - from 168 euros per person.

When treating at the Lake Heviz resort, physiological, natural healing factors for the body are used: a unique microclimate, healing thermal water and peat mud.

Secrets of treatment on Lake Heviz

The year-round balneological resort in Heviz is located 200 km from the capital of Hungary. The secret of its popularity is the healing properties of thermal waters, saturated with gases and minerals, as well as unique bottom mud containing iodine, estrogens and minerals. The surface of the lake is decorated with pink and lilac lilies, which have become a symbol of Heviz since the first Indian water lily was brought here in 1898. You can enjoy how the water kingdom is buried in beautiful flowers from summer to late autumn.

Heviz is the largest warm-water lake of volcanic origin in Hungary and throughout Europe, covering an area of 47.5 sq.m. The deepest point is 38 meters. The water is completely renewed within 3.5 days; its temperature, even in winter, does not fall below 24-26 °C. The waters of Heviz are fed by ten healing springs located in the sub-lake cave: 8 cold (17 ˚С) and 2 hot (40 ˚С). The water in the lake constantly circulates due to the temperature difference between the upper and deep layers. This process helps maintain the saturation of the waters with healing substances and a temperature comfortable for swimming all year round. The healing effect of relaxation on Lake Heviz is enhanced by the favorable microclimate, which is formed due to the combination of intense steam formation above the surface of the water and the ozone-saturated air of the surrounding forest.

Rheumatology Clinic named after St. Andras

The first building of the clinic, which today bears the name of St. András, was built on the basis of the baths erected by the family of Counts Festetics on the shores of Lake Heviz. In 1906, the clinic was headed by a specialist in balneological treatment, Dr. Schulhof Vilmos. In 1911, he opened two modern departments in Heviz - Zander and Roentgen, where he received patients in need of correction of the musculoskeletal system. At the clinic, treatment was carried out using gymnastics, electrotherapy, and X-ray and laboratory tests were carried out. Vilmos's work was later joined by his younger brother, Dr. Schulhof Eden, who specializes in physical therapy and radiology.

The success of the doctors ensured the development of a medical care system and the use of medicinal lake water for the health of residents and guests of Hungary. Their achievements were so significant that on January 1, 1952, the Hungarian Ministry of Health established the State Thermal Clinic on the basis of the buildings of the resort village of Heviz.

Remember!

  • The active elements of water place additional stress on the body, so it is not recommended to stay in the lake for more than an hour without special recommendations from the attending physician, and for people with circulatory diseases - more than half an hour. In any case, when visiting Lake Heviz, consult a specialist.
  • Swimming in Lake Heviz is not entertainment, but a health procedure!
  • The healing substances of the lake, which help relax muscles and dilate skin capillaries, will penetrate your body faster (through the skin and respiratory tract) if you move more in the water.
  • It is better to swim in a lake with a circle, even if you are a good swimmer. This vertical stretching has a beneficial effect on diseases of the spine and joints.
  • You should swim slowly in the lake, because its waters are “heavy.”
  • In the summer, it is important to be careful for patients with neurovascular diseases: hyperinsolation and overheating can provoke the development of a vascular crisis in them.
  • Autumn and spring are the best seasons for the recovery of patients who have suffered a myocardial infarction, those exposed to radiation, and other risk groups.
  • Long-term water procedures are contraindicated for children under 14 years of age.

Instructions for using the indoor complex on Lake Heviz

When you purchase an entrance ticket or lake pass at the ticket office, you receive a magnetic watch that you must wear on your wrist (even while swimming in the lake). If you have purchased a subscription, you can enter and exit the bathing complex only at the entrance where it was purchased.

The magnetic clock must be applied to the blue arrow of the electronic turnstile to enter the territory of the bathing complex. The green arrow light comes on and the countdown of the time spent on the lake begins.

You can choose a common locker room, a separate one for men or a separate one for women.

In the locker rooms there are electronic displays on the wall. You also need to attach a watch to them. Your locker number will be displayed on the display. You can also control the remaining time using an electronic scoreboard. The cabinets open and close using the same magnetic clock.

You can leave all your belongings in the locker, taking with you only a towel (robe) and slippers. There is a cafe on the territory of the bathhouse, so you can take a small amount of money with you.

Close the locker and make sure it is locked.

For hygiene purposes, take a shower before and after swimming.
Walk along the warm corridor to the center of the bathhouse.

In the center under the roof there are 4 swimming sections. In two, the water is the warmest, because it is quickly supplied from the depths of the hot spring to the top. These sections offer underwater massage. Call-in guests on a first-come, first-served basis use this service. You can swim out from closed sections.

Be careful - the depth of the lake is 38 meters. It is prohibited to pick water lilies.

It is recommended to stay in the water in a relaxed state for no more than 30 minutes continuously. After a short break on land, you can continue swimming. For convenience, use a swimming ring. Being in an upright position ensures maximum healing effect.

You can check how long you have been on the lake (initial time at entry, how much time has passed, amount of surcharge) at one of the many reading meters.

Before you leave the lake, check the meter to see how long you spent there. If the time exceeds the paid period, then at the ticket office at the exit you will have to pay extra at the rate of 10 forints per minute. If you have made the investment on time, the reading device will confirm this, and you will be able to leave the lake by going through the turnstile at the exit.

When leaving the complex, you should also attach the magnetic clock to the turnstile. If you have a one-time visit to the lake, then you need to take the watch off your hand and throw it into a special hole in the turnstile. And if you have a subscription, then the watch remains with you until the subscription expires.

While vacationing in Heviz, you can undergo a number of preventive procedures that can prevent many diseases. Highly qualified specialists conduct autogenic training, ergotherapy, special types of massage (segmental, connective tissue) and much more.

Hungary is rich in thermal resorts, but Lake Heviz has a special place among them. The healing properties of the water in the lake made it a popular resort among Europeans 200 years ago. Here they treat diseases of the joints, spine, nervous system, skin, and restore after injuries. For a therapeutic effect, you need to stay at the resort for at least 2 weeks. How to organize an independent holiday on Lake Heviz in Hungary? Will a trip without a ticket be cheaper than a tour, or will it not be possible to save money? When to go and how to get there?

There is entertainment in Heviz, and attractions in the neighboring towns near Lake Balaton. But most tourists come not to admire the beauty, but for health. Many are on crutches and in wheelchairs. For people with disabilities, everything at the resort is thought out and convenient.

They don’t swim or swim in the lake - they “hang out” on inflatable rings here so as not to overload the heart. Heviz is categorically not recommended for children under 12 years of age; there are contraindications for adults as well - radon in the water has a strong effect on the body.

Of course, the hotels have swimming pools with regular and thermal water, there are excellent spa treatments and wellness centers, it’s nice to walk around the town, and the restaurants offer amazing cuisine and wine. But Budapest and other cities have all this, and Lake Heviz is unique.

Should you go to Lake Heviz on your own or buy a tour?

Since the early 2000s, Russians have flocked to Heviz, mainly on tours. The resort gradually rebuilt itself from German guests to Russian-speaking ones. If you don’t know Hungarian and English, you won’t get lost in Heviz: in hotels, restaurants, and hospitals they speak Russian. Doctors will understand you and give you treatment programs in Russian.

It’s easy to come to Heviz on your own without a travel agency:

  1. buy a plane ticket;
  2. get a Schengen visa.

Will the trip be cheaper? This depends on the thoroughness of the preparation. For example, with Wizz Air you can find round-trip tickets from 4,500 rubles, but to do this you need to track prices. Apartments in Heviz, as in other cities of Hungary, are more profitable than hotels, but not all are represented in popular booking systems; prices are lower on Hungarian and German sites, starting from 10 euros.

But you won’t be able to save on treatment: prices for visiting the lake are official, and paying “into the doctor’s pocket” is not accepted. The pond is fenced on all sides, even if you do not need procedures. To “just take a dip” you have to pay.

Best time to go to Heviz

The resort welcomes guests at any time of the year. In summer, the water in the lake is very warm - up to +36 degrees, in winter it cools down to +22. The coldest, windiest and least sunny month is February. At this time, housing prices are at their lowest.

All advertising brochures say that you can always swim in the lake. This is true. But in winter it is not very comfortable to swim out from under a glass cover into an open body of water; the temperature contrast is for the hardened. If you walk through the passages from the building to the descent into the lake in a swimsuit, then it feels like walking naked on the beach in winter Sochi.

In the closed part of the lake, the water concentration is weaker. Hotels have thermal pools, but the composition of the water is different. It is better to find out whether it has medicinal properties or not from a doctor who usually works at the hotel.

You can look at the weather and conditions in Heviz using the city webcam broadcast on the official website.

  • Pay close attention to warning signs on the lake, near mineral water pump rooms and to the advice of doctors to avoid health complications;
  • Children under 6 years old have free entry to the lake; there is a playroom, playground and swimming pool for them. Children from 12 years old are allowed into the wellness center and saunas;
  • On the territory of the bathhouse there is a restaurant that is open in the summer, rental of swimsuits and swimming rings, outdoor exercise equipment, a salt room, free sun loungers;
  • If you bought a one-time ticket to Lake Heviz and did not use it, it is lost - you cannot return it or go another day.

A lot of useful up-to-date information in Russian on the official website of the Heviz resort - everything about the healing properties of water, a map, city news, hotel offers. Here you can find out more about the tourist map Hévíz Card+, which gives discounts on entry to attractions, lake visits, transfers and other services.

How to get from the airport to Heviz on your own

The airport adjacent to Heviz accepts flights only from Germany, and only from April to October. Russian tourists mainly fly to Budapest.

You can get from Heviz (190 km) without stopping in Budapest by a pre-booked car or taxi. For example, www.busexpress.hu offers a price of 79 euros for a group transfer and 119 euros for an individual transfer. There is a Russian language page for ordering.

Public transport from Budapest runs frequently and you can leave from 4 am to 12 midnight. A train or bus arrives in the town of Kasthely, 5 km from Heviz, from where city buses constantly run to the resort. The road to Kasthely will take 3.5 - 4 hours. Treatment, reviews and holidays on which we are interested are one of them. In general, you can find healing springs in literally every corner of this country. However, the most famous of them are located precisely on the shores of Heviz, the largest warm-water lake in Europe. Thanks to the unique composition of its water, it attracts many tourists.

Location

Heviz is a lake that is located 200 km from Budapest. The resort is 6 km away from a small town called Keszthely. The lake is quite large. 4.7 hectares is its area. This reservoir is nestled among a protected forest, so tourists have the opportunity to enjoy not only the healing warm water, but also walks through the forest. Heviz is also a famous scientific center. Conferences and symposia are held here.

Lake water temperature

Heviz is a lake that is fed by 3 springs: one with mineral water and two thermal ones. +17 °C is the temperature of mineral water, +38 °C is the temperature of thermal waters in the first and +48 °C in the second source. It continuously evaporates, humidifying and purifying the surrounding air. Therefore, even a walk along the shore of this picturesque lake will be beneficial for the respiratory system.

At the bottom there is a layer of healing mud. They are rich in various minerals. The reason that the flora and fauna here are pale is the unusually high temperature of the water in a body of water like Lake Heviz. A photo of Indian water lilies is presented below. They were brought to the resort territory about a century ago. The water lilies have taken root and are today one of the highlights of this place.

You can go on holiday at any time of the year to Heviz. This lake is always distinguished by warm water. Its temperature reaches +33 °C in summer, and can drop to +26 °C in winter. The air in July warms up to +24 °C and drops to -2 °C in the cold season. However, in winter the number of tourists does not decrease, since it is pleasant to swim in hot water shrouded in steam, admiring the winter landscapes.

The miraculous power of water

Even ancient people identified the amazing power of the water of this lake. They realized that it could be used not only to quench thirst, but also to cure various diseases. Today Heviz is a lake, which is a huge bathhouse, an open-air inhalation facility, and a drinking pump room. In its funnel, reaching a depth of 38 m, flows of cold and warm waters mix. Nature mixes them in proportions just necessary so that they, while remaining pleasant to the taste, have the ability to eliminate various diseases.

Many elements are found in water, such as radon. Ionizing radiation in small doses increases the activity of immune-competent cells in the body. As a result, the immune system becomes more effective against infectious agents, as well as transformed cells in various autoimmune diseases. In addition, radon baths have an analgesic, sedative, and desensitizing effect. They restore joint function, improve cardiac activity, and normalize blood pressure.

The mud of Heviz has a unique composition. They have a healing effect due to the content of sulfides, hormone-like and organic biologically active substances and low radioactivity. By connecting individual chondricides with each other, restoring destroyed chondroitin sulfate molecules, sulfur forms a strong elastic tissue. Hormone-like substances have a positive effect on the hormonal system in men and women.

What can be cured in Heviz?

Medical indications for treatment courses in Heviz cover many diseases. These are, first of all, ailments of the musculoskeletal system, disorders in the functioning of the peripheral nervous system. The waters of Heviz have a calming effect, which is explained by the presence of hydrogen sulfide in them. In the central nervous system, under the influence of this element, processes of inhibition begin to predominate over processes of excitation. Magnesium has the same effect, which is why it is called an anti-stress element.

Balneotherapy for gynecological diseases prescribes treating decreased ovarian function with sulfide mud, and radon therapy to treat increased estrogen levels. Heviz mud is therefore used to treat various inflammatory diseases.

Also, swimming in this lake is useful for diseases of the musculoskeletal system: reactive and post-infectious arthopathy, psoriatic arthropathy, rheumatoid arthritis, arthrosis, idiopathic gout, inflammatory lesions of soft periarticular tissues (myositis, epicondylitis, bursitis, synovitis, tendovaginitis). Its waters significantly improve the condition of patients with spinal osteochondrosis, grade 1-2 scoliosis, ankylosing spondylitis, those with lesions of the intervertebral discs, etc. If you have any of these problems, we recommend going to Lake Heviz (Hungary).

Contraindications

The treatment helps with many diseases, but it also has contraindications. This applies, first of all, to people suffering from heart failure, malignant tumors, and infectious diseases. Heviz therapy is also contraindicated in patients with hypothyroidism, thyroid disease, circulatory failure, unstable arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus (subcompensated), heart disease, hemophilia, people with a tendency to thrombosis, patients with thrombophlebitis, thrombosis, bronchial asthma, anemia, leukopenia, hematopoietic diseases organs. If you have any of these problems, you should not swim in a body of water such as Lake Heviz.

Contraindications also apply to patients who have skin diseases accompanied by extensive damage to the integument, as well as pregnant and lactating women, people who have undergone radiotherapy less than 6 weeks ago or have had a myocardial infarction. Treatment at this resort is not recommended for people who, due to their professional activities, have to be exposed for a long time to microwave and UHF currents, or radioactive radiation. In this case, it is better not to choose Lake Heviz (Hungary) for your vacation. Contraindications should not be ignored - this is very important for your health.

Unique therapy

The Karoly Molla (vertical underwater traction) method is the real pride of this resort. It was developed in 1953 by Károly Moll, a Heviz doctor. Since then, it has maintained a leading position among other healing techniques for which Lake Heviz is famous. Reviews about it contributed to the fact that this method has gained great popularity. Thanks to modern research, today it has been possible not only to prove its effectiveness, but also to develop a number of differentiated approaches that make it possible to apply this method in each specific case with the greatest efficiency. It has undergone several changes since 1953, but is still in use today. Thanks to this method, it was possible to save tens of thousands of people who arrived for treatment at the thermal lake Heviz from serious operations. He gave them back free and painless movement.

The hanging method involves moving the vertebrae away from each other. This causes the spine to stretch. Thanks to this, it is possible to restore the healthy state in which the intervertebral discs were originally located.

A suspended bath is a completely painless procedure, since the buoyancy of the water allows the patient’s body to be brought into a relaxed state. Very carefully, the weights stretch the spine. The patient “hangs” in the pool during the procedure. Grips are attached under the arms and/or at the neck. Depending on the disease, weights are attached to the ankles and/or waist. Typically the weight of cargo is 2-3-5 kg. The duration of this procedure in most cases is 20 minutes.

Rules to follow

Water procedures, like any treatment, should be carried out after consultation with a doctor. The following rules should also be observed:

1. It must be remembered that the first treatment procedure is swimming in a body of water such as Lake Heviz. Treatment will be less effective if you view your stay here as a vacation on the beach.

2. To enhance the effect of bathing, you should move during the procedure. The water of Lake Heviz helps to relax spasmodic muscles, activate respiratory processes, and dilate skin capillaries. Through the respiratory tract and skin, beneficial substances enter the human body from water more intensively.

3. A circle should be used for swimming, even for those who are good swimmers. This creates a vertical traction effect, which is very useful for those suffering from various diseases of the joints and spine.

4. Don't try to swim at a fast pace in Heviz. The waters of this lake are not very mineralized, but they feel quite heavy.

5. It is important to understand that the active components contained in water, acting on the body, lead to additional stress on it. Therefore, therapeutic bathing without additional doctor’s recommendations should not last more than an hour a day. And people with circulatory diseases can swim for no more than half an hour.

6. For those who have suffered a myocardial infarction or were involved in the liquidation of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, as well as other people at risk, it is best to recuperate in Heviz in the spring and autumn.

7. Children under 14 years of age are not recommended to carry out water procedures for a long time. For the little ones, there is a separate beach on the territory of the complex, as well as a playground and a small pool, which makes a holiday on Lake Heviz (Hungary) interesting for them too.

Things you should take with you

Take a comfortable bag where you can put a robe for the season, a change of shoes (rubber slippers are best), a towel, swimming trunks for men and a swimsuit for women. Pre-purchase a swimming ring for swimming. They are sold on the lake in open shops, as well as in the city in stalls. It is not at all necessary to take a rubber swimming cap with you.

All silver jewelry should be left at home or in a hotel safe, as silver will darken when exposed to Heviz thermal water. You can also take a camera. If you plan to have a snack at the bar located on the territory of the complex or just have a cup of coffee, it would be logical to have some forints with you. If you have purchased a pass, do not forget to bring the plastic watch that is needed to enter the lake.

How to carry out water procedures

The lake in some places has a decent depth, reaching 38 meters. So don't forget to use a swimming ring. You should know that doctors do not recommend active swimming, otherwise the water in Heviz can put a decent strain on the heart. It is better to hang in a vertical position on the circle and try to relax, while avoiding sudden movements. This way you can achieve the greatest therapeutic effect from bathing.

Do not organize sports swims on the lake. Remember to be relaxed and calm. Doctors advise taking a short break (ten to fifteen minutes) after half an hour of swimming. You can drink a cup of juice or tea, mineral water, and relax on the sun loungers. There are a lot of them on the territory of the complex. If the weather is sunny and hot, you can sunbathe on the grass near the lake or on the open terraces.

Local Attractions

Many attractions are located in this area of a country such as Hungary (Lake Heviz). Treatment, reviews of which are invariably positive, is not the only thing you can do here. In addition to swimming in the lake, you can explore local attractions. Take some time to take a tour of Keszthely and get to know the architecture of this unique place. You will also find the African Museum located in Balatonederici. It features many trophies from the hottest continent. Go to Mount Kovacs. The Human Rights Park is located here. As you can see, you won’t be bored when you arrive at Lake Heviz (Hungary).

Hungary Heviz is the only natural healing lake in the world with a peat bottom suitable for swimming. The bottom of the lake is covered with a seven-meter layer of medicinal peat. The maximum depth of the lake is 38 meters. Lake Heviz is fed by 10 springs, of which 8 are cold (17 degrees) and 2 are hot (40 degrees). The warm water of the lake consists of a mixture of these sources.

In a second, the source throws 410 liters of water to the surface; it is completely renewed in 3.5 days. You can swim in Lake Heviz all year round. The water temperature in summer reaches 38 degrees, but in winter it does not drop below 24-26 degrees even on the coldest days.

Regular clients of Lake Heviz are Otto Habsburg, the Dalai Lama, heads of state and high-ranking officials of the Visegrad Four countries, Alex Brooking, Edwin Marton (D. Bilan, E. Plushenko), film stars Gerard Depardieu and Ornela Mutti...

Lake bathing, balneotherapy, drinking therapy. Hungary - Heviz.

According to the classification adopted in Russia, the waters of Heviz belong to the group of low-mineralized hydrocarbonate-sulfate calcium-magnesium waters with a small content of the noble gas radon, carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide. The waters of Lake Heviz have a calming effect. This is explained by the presence of hydrogen sulfide, under the influence of which in the central nervous system the processes of inhibition begin to prevail over the processes of excitation. Magnesium has the same effect, which is why it is called the “anti-stress element”. When swimming in the lake, warm water improves blood circulation and metabolic processes in the skin and tissues, joints, cartilage, and internal organs. Minerals enter the skin and exert their healing effect.

Active components of Lake Heviz waters

Hydrocarbonate ion neutralizes hydrochloric acid in the lumen of the stomach, alkalinizes urine, promotes the dissolution of mucus in the stomach, urinary tract, and when inhaled in the upper respiratory tract.

Sulfates inhibit the secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, have a pronounced effect, enhance intestinal motility, and increase metabolic processes. I regulate stool, eliminate flatulence and cleanse the intestines; these waters free the body and especially the liver from the effects of various toxic substances. Sulfur (in the form of sulfites and sulfates) restores the cartilaginous membranes of joints, skin, and hair. Since ancient times, it has been considered the main medicinal substance for skin diseases and the best cosmetic product.

Calcium has an anti-inflammatory and desensitizing (reducing sensitivity) effect, affects the growth of bone tissue, reduces the tendency to bleeding from the mucous membranes.

Magnesium sulfate, having antispasmodic effect, reduces blood pressure, regulates intestinal motility, biliary tract, catalyzes the activity of enzymes in the gastrointestinal tract.

Radon- small doses of ionizing radiation increase the activity of immunocompetent cells. as a result, the body’s immunity becomes more resistant to both infectious agents and transformed cells in autoimmune diseases. Radon baths have a pronounced desensitizing, sedative and analgesic effect, restore impaired joint functions, prevent the progression of the process, improve heart function, and normalize blood pressure.

Waters containing the noble gas radon have been used for drinking treatment for more than two thousand years. The Roman Emperor Septimius Severus was treated with radon waters for urolithiasis. Radon waters have a beneficial effect on the immunological reactivity of the body and emergency kidney function, have an analgesic effect, improve metabolic processes, motor and secretory functions of the stomach, intestines, and bile ducts.

Carbon dioxide. Even a small content of carbon dioxide in Heviz water promotes faster absorption and faster excretion by the kidneys, which is one of the reasons for its diuretic effect. When swimming, the “gas brush” improves peripheral blood circulation.

Hydrogen sulfide ions reduce gastric secretion, have a laxative and choleretic effect. However, the healing properties of Heviz water are due to the presence of not only sulfides and free sulfur, but also thiosulfates, which increase the immune status of the body and, therefore, enhance the anti-inflammatory effect.

Silicon is contained in the waters of Lake Heviz in the form of metasilicic acid in colloidal form, which explains the adsorption, astringent, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and diuretic properties of these waters, as well as the inhibitory effect on the secretory function of the stomach. Siliceous acid affects the skin, increases the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans and collagen, and therefore promotes the formation of granulations and scarring, smoothes out wrinkles, makes the skin smooth and silky.

MUD TREATMENT

The mud of Lake Heviz in Hungary is unique in its composition: it contains sulfides, organic biologically active and hormone-like substances and is radioactive (194-77.6 Bq/kg). Sulfur restores chondroitin sulfate molecules and literally stitches individual chondrocytes together, resulting in the formation of strong elastic cartilage tissue. Hormone-like substances help restore hormonal function in women and men. For gynecological diseases, according to modern canons of balneotherapy, sulfide mud is indicated for decreased ovarian function, and radon therapy for increased estrogen levels. Therefore, treatment with Heviz mud is indicated for inflammatory diseases with unchanged ovarian function.

VERTICAL UNDERWATER TRUCTION USING THE KAROJ MALL METHOD

The method rightfully occupies a leading place in treatment in Heviz. It was developed by the Heviz doctor Károly Moll in 1953. Modern research has not only proven the effectiveness of the method, but also made it possible to develop differentiated approaches in each specific case.
