How to treat chronic runny nose in adults. Medicines and folk recipes. How to cure chronic runny nose at home

At an appointment with an ENT doctor, every third patient complains of a prolonged runny nose or, scientifically, chronic rhinitis. This disease is manifested by long-term inflammatory and degenerative processes in the nasal mucosa: constant congestion of the nasal passages, impaired nasal breathing, mucous or purulent discharge from the nostrils and headaches.

Chronic rhinitis in most cases does not cause mortal danger for human health, but significantly worsens the quality of his life. That is why, before curing chronic runny nose, it is important to figure out why it arose in order to prevent it from appearing again.

Causes of chronic inflammation in the nose

  1. Frequent inflammation of the nasal cavity (acute rhinitis) with their improper treatment.
  2. Irritants in the air (mineral or metal dust, high or low temperature inhaled air, low air humidity, nicotine). For example, working in hazardous industries and smoking can lead to a chronic runny nose.
  3. Hereditary predisposition to diseases of the nose, defects of the nasal septum.
  4. Uncontrolled use of some medicines(for example, blood pressure tablets based on rauwolfia or vasoconstrictor drops).

Sometimes a chronic runny nose is not an independent disease, but only one of the symptoms of another nasal pathology - adenoids or sinusitis.
In such cases, its treatment should be preceded by measures to eliminate its root cause - removal of the adenoids, opening and drainage of the maxillary sinuses, etc.

Rhinitis also often occurs with cardiovascular and kidney diseases, violations hormonal levels in women, with constipation and alcoholism.

Methods for treating chronic runny nose

When the runny nose is prolonged and gradually turns into chronic form, to be cured for a short time will not work. Since hypertrophic or atrophic processes they did not appear in the nose in one day; they will have to be treated persistently and for a long time.

Sometimes in the first week of treatment there may be a deterioration in the patient’s condition: more thick discharge, nasal congestion worsens, intensifies headache. However, this is not a reason to refuse treatment. You need to consult your doctor again to adjust your prescription if necessary.

The main methods of treating chronic rhinitis are the following:

Local drug treatment

Depending on the suspected cause of the development of chronic runny nose, drops with anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, anti-allergenic or antibacterial effect. On pharmaceutical market There are a large number of such drops and most of them have a combined action (for example, moisturizing + antibacterial, anti-allergenic + healing, etc.).

Of these, preference should be given to oil-based drops ( sea buckthorn oil, oil solutions vitamins E and A) to simplify the process of softening and removing crusts from the nose.

It is better to avoid vasoconstrictor drops during a chronic process, since the effect from them, although it occurs quickly, does not last long. But from frequent use, the mucous membrane becomes insensitive to their action, which is fraught with the development of drug runny nose.

When choosing the required type of drops, it is better to rely on a doctor who knows exactly how to treat a runny nose in your case. Some situations require the administration of drugs orally in the form of tablets or injections (with severe forms allergic or purulent runny nose).

Physiotherapeutic treatment

This type of treatment includes procedures such as: heating the nose with UHF and ultraviolet rays, endonasal electrophoresis, medicinal inhalations using special nozzles for the nose, magnetic therapy and mud therapy. Physiotherapy is prescribed in conjunction with the main drug therapy or immediately after its completion to consolidate the result.

Warming the nose with Minin's infrared lamp

So-called " blue lamp"can successfully replace physiotherapeutic procedures. The lamp is turned on at a distance of 20-30 cm from the bridge of the nose so that a pleasant warmth is felt on the skin. Warm the nose under a lamp for 5 to 20 minutes once a day.

This procedure effectively helps cure chronic runny nose in a child under three years of age, since for the treatment of children younger age The use of a rather narrow list of medications is permitted.

General restorative treatment

Because the prolonged runny nose, often occurs against the background of a decrease general immunity, use immunostimulants and adaptogens (for example, based on echinacea or ginseng), multivitamin and mineral complexes.

Sinus massage

In addition, the effectiveness of treatment can be increased with the help of a special massage. The following video will tell you how to do it.

Surgical methods

In cases where a prolonged runny nose is caused by improper structure or traumatic displacement of the nasal concha, a surgery. During the operation, normal anatomical structure structures of the nose, excess overgrown tissue is excised.

If the nasal mucosa is slightly enlarged, it is cauterized liquid nitrogen(cryodestruction of the nasal turbinates).

Treatment of a runny nose with folk remedies

Most effective folk remedies The following are recognized for chronic runny nose:

Warm dry compresses with salt

Apply warm bags of salt to your nose twice a day. Such thermal procedures lead to a rush of blood to the nasal area, improve blood circulation in the mucous membrane, and enhance regeneration processes.

It is important to ensure that the bag is not hot (you can check this by applying it to inner surface forearm) so as not to get a burn on the face.

Honey and milk drops

Drip your nose with honey-milk drops (3 drops in each nostril 3 times a day) for 7-10 days. To make them, you need to mix 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of milk. The drops must be freshly prepared. Honey has excellent antiseptic and healing properties, and milk will well moisturize the mucous membrane and facilitate the removal of dried crusts.

Warming up your feet

Hot foot baths are taken daily before bed, after which you put on warm socks with dry mustard poured inside. The course of warming procedures is 7-10 days, but the duration can be increased as needed. Contraindication is elevated temperature body and pregnancy.

Eastern medicine believes that the feet (certain points on the soles) and the nose (mucous membrane) are connected by an energetically active channel. There is even one folk sign: today I got my feet wet - tomorrow I will have a runny nose. In this regard, it is generally accepted that warming the feet helps get rid of chronic runny nose in both children and adults.

Tamponades with juices and oils of medicinal plants

Nasal tamponade with a mixture of useful ingredients: honey, sea buckthorn oil, calendula juice (10 g each) and propolis (5 g) also helps greatly with persistent rhinitis. Dip cotton swabs into the resulting mixture and insert them into the nostrils for 20 minutes. The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks.

Rinsing the nose with diluted herbal infusions

At home, rinse your nose with a solution of chamomile and plantain infusion. The herbal infusion, in addition to its cleansing effect, has an anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic function.

Prevention of chronic rhinitis

To protect yourself from a chronic runny nose, you must avoid hypothermia and interaction with allergens, prevent the nasal mucosa from drying out, and promptly treat acute rhinitis, do not get carried away with vasoconstrictor drops.
If you cannot get rid of a runny nose on your own within a week, you should definitely seek help from a doctor.

People tend not to notice problems with their nose. Many people think that daily congestion due to a chronic runny nose is normal.

But the amount of oxygen entering through the blocked nasal passages is much lower. This causes constant headaches and poor performance.

Therefore, it is worth paying attention to constant nasal congestion and, if necessary, finding out how to treat chronic rhinitis.

Diagnosis of a runny nose

The diagnosis of rhinitis is made otolaryngologist. The doctor, when interviewed, reveals:

  • constant nasal discharge,
  • congestion,
  • headache,

Examination of the nasal cavity allows the doctor to make a preliminary diagnosis of atrophic, hypertrophic or vasomotor rhinitis. Additionally assigned X-ray of the cranial sinuses.

At allergic rhinitis Symptoms include constant sneezing; a person can tell what they are allergic to. Allergic rhinitis requires more detailed diagnosis:

  1. tests with allergens,
  2. nasal swab,
  3. general analysis blood,
  4. immunogram,
  5. examination of the nasal cavity with a rhinoscope.

Chronic rhinitis often occurs due to improper treatment of acute rhinitis, or as a consequence of catarrhal runny nose.

Prevention

It is difficult to say what to do to prevent rhinitis without knowing the reasons for its occurrence. But there is general recommendations which can alleviate the condition.

  • If diseases of the throat, ear or nose appear, they should always be treated promptly.
  • Worth giving up long-term use for treatment purposes, vasoconstrictor drops and nasal sprays.
  • Contact with any allergic irritants must be avoided.
  • If one of the types of rhinitis is detected, it is recommended to consult a doctor as soon as possible.
  • Need to do it all the time physical exercise on the body and go for walks every day fresh air.
  • It is advisable to give up subtle bad habits.
  • It's better not to carry out surgical operations nose
  • It is important to take vitamins.
  • If any illness occurs respiratory tract, their treatment should not be delayed. You need to eat in small portions 5-6 times a day.

Treatment of chronic rhinitis in adults

Chronic rhinitis is not one diagnosis; it is several types of runny nose, which differ in terms of treatment. Some require surgical treatment, some - only local drops.

Subatrophic

When sub atrophic rhinitis mucus production in the nasal cavity decreases. This condition precedes complete atrophy. In people decreased sense of smell, crusts often form in the nasal cavity.

Dry indoor air, industrial hazards, and smoking contribute to atrophy. Treatment for early stages subatrophy includes:

  • inhalation- With mineral water, with aromatic oils,
  • oil drops– pinosol,
  • as a preventive measure, avoid risk factors- , to give up smoking.

Chronic atrophic

With atrophic changes in the nasal cavity crusts appear constantly, after they leave, there may be bleeding. A person complains of a feeling of tightness and dryness. May join bad smell from the nose.

Atrophic rhinitis is difficult and time consuming to treat. To the treatment of subatrophic rhinitis described above should be added:

  1. nasal rinsing saline solutions, sea water,
  2. regular lubrication of the mucous membrane oil products: glycerin, vegetable oils with vitamins A and E,
  3. maintaining immunity– vitamins, echinacea and ginseng extracts.

You can remove crusts from the nose, which give a feeling of tightness, only after soaking with oils and inhalations. This will prevent bleeding.

If atrophic rhinitis was accompanied by recurrent bleeding, then A complete blood count may show anemia. Then you will additionally need iron supplements - fenyuls, ferrum lek.

Chronic hypertrophic

Self-medication of an acute runny nose often becomes the cause of chronic rhinitis. If symptoms appear, you should seek help in time and carefully follow your doctor’s recommendations.

Only then can the symptoms of chronic runny nose become rare, unnoticeable, or get rid of them completely.

Video on the topic

Treatment of chronic rhinitis should be carried out in individually, knowing exactly the cause of this disease in you. How diagnosis and treatment occurs is described in the video below:

In contact with

Chronic rhinitis (runny nose) is accompanied by difficulty breathing, constant nasal swelling and discharge, headaches, impaired sense of smell, a feeling of internal discomfort and congestion in the ears. Those who have encountered this problem and were looking for ways to cure a chronic runny nose know the only thing universal remedy does not exist. What helps some people brings only a short-term improvement in nasal breathing for others.

Today we will tell you about several methods and, perhaps, will help our readers choose a remedy for chronic runny nose that will help cope with this problem.

Why does chronic runny nose appear?

To answer the question whether chronic runny nose can be cured, let's look at why it appears and what is the difference between chronic rhinitis and acute rhinitis.

Acute and chronic rhinitis is nothing more than inflammation of the blood vessels in the nasal mucosa.

But unlike a regular runny nose, which appears as a protective reaction of the body to hypothermia, the main cause of a chronic runny nose is the expansion of the capillaries that make up the nasal mucosa.

Therefore, the main task in the treatment of chronic rhinitis is to narrow the capillaries. This will help relieve swelling.

In other words, for those who are looking for a cure for chronic persistent runny nose, you need to select drugs that will constrict the blood vessels in the nose, and not kill viruses, as in acute rhinitis that accompanies colds.

Therefore, folk remedies like sniffing onions, garlic or dripping juice from beets and carrots into the nose are unlikely to help narrow the blood vessels in the nose and get rid of a chronic runny nose.

Drug treatment

To treat chronic runny nose, drugs are used that strengthen the vessels of the mucous membrane, normalize blood circulation and correct disorders that provoke inflammation.

They usually do not have side effects, but, unfortunately, they are addictive.

Therefore, after long-term use, nasal medications no longer bring the desired relief: if after the first doses you “can breathe” freely for 5-6 hours, then in the future the drug will make your life easier for 2-3 hours. Then you have to look for a new “effective” medicine.

We do not advise you to self-medicate, but we would like to introduce you to some little-known methods that have helped cure chronic runny nose.

For example, on one of the forums, peach oil is recommended as an effective moisturizer for chronic runny nose. 15 minutes before dripping any drops into your nose for a runny nose, lubricate the membranes of your nose with peach oil. Gradually switch from drops to peach oil, that is, drip only oil into your nose.

For a prolonged runny nose, some doctors recommend taking Sinupret tablets and rinsing the nasal passages with Flixonase. This treatment reduces the swelling of the epithelium, frees the sinuses from deposits and clears phlegm.

Children's cream-balm “Healer” helps to heal the affected nasal membrane and get rid of crusts in the nose. First, you need to smear it on your nose up to 5 times a day to get rid of a lingering runny nose, then only at night. A slight chill is felt, then breathing becomes easier, as after drops.

Alternating Sinuforte drops and Nasobek spray helps with chronic rhinitis.

Folk remedies for chronic runny nose

Irrigation - nasal rinsing

To treat a runny nose, nasal rinsing (irrigation) with solutions is most often recommended:

Saline solution (0.5 tbsp sea salt per0.5 cups boiled water)

Chamomile solution (1 tablespoon of salt per glass of chamomile infusion)

Eucalyptus solution (1 tsp. eucalyptus oil per glass of boiled water).

After rinsing, you can drip aloe or Kalanchoe juice into your nose.

For those who have a chronic runny nose and worry about it several times a year, we advise you to purchase an otorhinolaryngic nasal rinsing device like Dolphin.

But most often, a regular teapot is used for these purposes.

In order to rinse the nose - to perform irrigation, bend over a bathtub or sink, pour a solution into one nostril, and through the other it flows out, cleansing the mucous membrane of viruses and microbes. For chronic rhinitis, it is necessary to rinse the nasal passages several times a day until the symptoms completely disappear.

Nasal drops

Based on saline solution with baking soda You can prepare drops that will help cure a persistent runny nose.

Prepare the base: add ½ tsp to 200 ml of boiled water. salt and soda.

Dissolve 1 tablet (0.05 g) of crushed diphenhydramine in 10 ml of the resulting base.

Add 20 drops of propolis tincture. Everything should “boil.”

The mixture will become milky in color with a yellowish tint. Over time the color will lighten. For chronic runny nose, drop 4 drops into each nostril every hour. After the condition improves, reduce the number of instillations. Chronic rhinitis can be cured in this way.

It is also recommended to make cotton swabs from honey and potassium permanganate, which should be inserted into the nasal passages. But such a folk remedy can cause a burn to the mucous membrane.

How to cure a chronic runny nose: unconventional methods

Saline swabs

We found this remedy for chronic runny nose using salt tampons interesting:

Prepare a pad of 4x4 cotton wool. Pour a little salt into its middle (at the tip of the handle of a teaspoon). Roll up with a roller, moisten in boiled water, squeeze a little and insert into the nostril. The roller should fit freely, but not fall out. After some time, the discharge will begin to be attracted to the saline tampon and flow out of the nostrils.

After 30 minutes you will feel a noticeable improvement in your breathing. Hardening...the nose - contrasting applications

It turns out that in order not to suffer from chronic rhinitis, you can harden your nose.

To do this, every morning after cleansing your nostrils, alternately take hot and cold water into your palms and apply them to your nose for 5 seconds. It is necessary to complete the procedure hot water(the one that your hands can hold). Temperature cold water reduce gradually. Having hardened your nose, you will forever forget what a runny nose is.

Physiotherapy and surgical treatment

Intranasal blockade

An otolaryngologist may suggest a more radical method of administering the medicine - an intranasal blockade. Simply put, this is a regular injection in the nose. Before the procedure, the mucous membrane is frozen, so the injection is not felt.

"Doctor Cold" - liquid nitrogen

If the above methods did not help you and you are looking for how to cure a chronic runny nose surgically, sympaty.net advises paying attention to cryosurgery - treatment with liquid nitrogen. It's not difficult, but very effective technique. Recovery after surgery lasts only 2 days.

The essence of the procedure is that cold liquid nitrogen is injected into the nostril using a special device, which irrigates the nasal mucosa. As a result of this procedure, the membrane of the nose freezes and crusts form on it. On the third day they recede, the vessels narrow, and the membrane becomes dense. After such a “renewal” of the membrane, you will forget about chronic runny nose for several years.

But, if you believe the reviews, it is impossible to cure a chronic runny nose with liquid nitrogen forever. On average, after 1.5 - 3 years, swelling of the nasal mucosa may recur.

Laser ray

Also, chronic runny nose can be successfully treated with laser therapy. The laser beam irradiates the entire surface of the mucous membrane, destroying damaged dilated blood vessels that cause swelling.

To treat chronic rhinitis, an average of 6 sessions are required. The treatment result is very effective and helps to get rid of chronic runny nose forever.

According to statistics, 15% of adults suffer from diseases of the nasopharynx, every 5th of them is a regular buyer of nasal drops that have a vasoconstrictor effect.

You will find plenty of advice on which remedy to choose for a chronic runny nose. But finding the method that will help you can be difficult.

Some forms of chronic rhinitis may persist in humans long time. The treatment regimen should be selected by a doctor, since the mechanism of development of the disease is individual for everyone.

Take care of yourself and be healthy!

It happens that a person is bothered by a runny nose for one week, the second, the third. As a matter of fact, nothing except nasal congestion is noted, and rhinitis does not go away. There are many reasons that lead to chronicity of the disease. It’s no wonder that many are interested in how to quickly cure a chronic runny nose at home.

Why can nasal congestion persist for more than a month? This predisposes:

  1. improper treatment of acute rhinitis;
  2. constant contact with the provoking factor;
  3. immunodeficiency due to concomitant severe pathology of internal organs;
  4. chronic nasopharyngeal infection;
  5. adenoids.

Nasal congestion can also be caused by a deformed septum, abnormalities or injuries. In this case drug therapy may be ineffective.

Forms of the disease

The type of rhinitis depends on causative factor and background pathology in humans:

  1. the infectious form develops due to the presence of pathogenic pathogens in the nasopharyngeal mucosa. They support the inflammatory process, causing symptoms. Exacerbation of the disease occurs due to decreased immunity or after hypothermia;
  2. allergic - differs in frequency if the allergen affects a person in a certain season of the year, for example, with hay fever. An allergic reaction can develop after inhaling pollen, taking a certain drug, or coming into contact with household chemicals;
  3. vasomotor rhinitis - often diagnosed in people with cardiovascular diseases, nervous system, with vegetative-vascular dystonia. Manifestations of rhinitis can be noticed at night. In the “lying on your side” position, congestion appears in the nostril that is located below.

A runny nose can also develop due to frequent hypothermia, prolonged breathing of polluted, dry air, or exposure to occupational hazards. There are several forms of rhinitis depending on the nature of inflammation and the predominant processes in the nasopharyngeal mucosa:

  • catarrhal - accompanied by hyperemia, swelling of the mucous membrane and hypersecretion. In most cases it is observed with frequent colds and is manifested by profuse rhinorrhea;
  • atrophic - characterized by thinning and atrophy of the mucous membrane and glands due to prolonged exposure negative factors(dust, chemical fumes). A person is worried about dryness, itching in the nose, dry crusts with ichor. The appearance of bloody streaks indicates damage to small blood vessels. Nasal discharge is viscous;

Often the cause of atrophic rhinitis in our time is the long-term use of drops with a vasoconstrictor effect.

  • hypertrophic - develops due to the growth of the nasopharyngeal mucosa, which leads to constant nasal congestion, a nasal voice and a lack of smell.

Preparatory stage of treatment

To select the correct medications, it is necessary to conduct full diagnostics. The otolaryngologist first questions the patient's complaints and analyzes his life history. For getting full picture disease is prescribed additional examination. This may include:

  1. rhinoscopy;
  2. X-ray examination of the paranasal sinuses, which makes it possible to confirm or exclude sinusitis, as well as identify structural abnormalities in this area;
  3. blood test (PCR, ELISA);
  4. allergy tests;
  5. study of immunological status;
  6. microscopic examination of nasopharyngeal smears;
  7. bacterial culture of material (mucus from the nasopharynx).

It is impossible to cure chronic rhinitis using folk remedies, so they are used only as auxiliary methods of therapy. A complex approach in treatment allows to eliminate the cause of the disease and relieve a person from bothersome symptoms. What is prescribed for treatment?

  • medications for local and systemic action;
  • rinsing the nasal cavities;
  • warming procedures;
  • massage;
  • inhalation;
  • homeopathic medicines;
  • folk remedies in the form of drops, ointments.

Features of therapy for different forms of the disease

Form of the disease Treatment methods Drug names Note
Infectious Sanitation of an infectious focus Antiseptics local action(Furacilin, Chlorhexidine, Miramistin, Bioparox, Polydexa), systemic drugs(Flemoclav, Ceftriaxone, Azithromycin) Vasoconstrictors in the form of a nasal spray are used in a short course to temporarily relieve nasal congestion and facilitate nasal breathing (Tizin, Evkazolin)
Allergic Eliminating the allergen, blocking the mechanism of allergy development Local medications (Allergodil), systemic medications (Erius, Suprastin) It is necessary to consult an allergist and conduct allergy tests.
Vasomotor Eliminating the cause Vasoconstrictors (Lazorin, Otrivin), topical hormonal agents (Beconase) The underlying disease is being treated
Catarrhal Antiseptic and antibacterial solutions, ointments and tablets Hormonal agents are prescribed only when severe course pathology Treatment methods are chosen depending on the cause
Atrophic Moisturizing mucous membranes, protecting against damage Oil drops Pinosol, folk remedies based on essential oils The main task is to stop using vasoconstrictor nasal drops or the effect of another provoking factor
Hypertrophic Drug or surgical treatment (removal of hypertrophied lesions) Hydrocortisone injections Drug treatment is carried out only for initial stage

Rinsing the nasal cavities

Cleansing the nasopharyngeal mucosa is the basis. Regular washing allows you to moisturize the mucous membrane, prevent its damage, remove mucus and toxins and restore the function of the cilia. The procedure can be performed to treat or prevent diseases. Washing of the nasal cavities is carried out:

  • ready-made saline solutions (Humer, No-sol, Salin, Dolphin, saline solution);
  • a solution of table or sea salt. To prepare, just dissolve 5 g of salt in warm water volume 230 ml. You can also add a drop of iodine;
  • infusion of garlic (5 chopped cloves per 700 ml of boiling water). After cooling, you can also mix with aloe juice 1:2;
  • herbal infusion. To prepare, just pour 30 g of eucalyptus, oak bark, chamomile, calendula or sage with boiling water (400 ml). After 15 minutes you can use it to rinse your nose. In addition, you can add 25 ml of aloe juice;
  • a weak solution of potassium permanganate (2 crystals per glass of warm water);
  • fresh beet juice, which is mixed with 240 ml of water and 2 g of salt;
  • lemon juice, diluted with water 1:10.

Nasal drops

You can make your own nasal drops using simple ingredients:

  1. onion or garlic juice diluted with water 1:3;
  2. chop the onion or garlic, select 50 g, add 50 ml of water, 5 ml of dissolved honey. After mixing, leave for an hour and use for nasal instillation;
  3. aloe juice can be used pure or diluted (1:2 with water);
  4. 17 bay leaves are poured with 270 ml of boiling water, infused for a little more than half an hour and 5 ml of liquid honey is added;
  5. honey should be diluted with water 1:1 and aloe juice added 1:1;
  6. You can add aloe vera juice onion juice 2:1, then dilute with water twice;
  7. aloe can be mixed with honey and lemon juice in equal volumes.

With atrophic rhinitis, a lot of dry crusts form, which can be combated with the help of oil products. To prepare the medicine, just mix olive oil with aloe juice 3:1. After heating the mixture in a water bath to 40 degrees, you can lubricate the nasopharyngeal mucosa twice a day.

Ointments

Ointments based natural ingredients allow you to protect the mucous membrane from irritation, moisturize it and accelerate regeneration. Here are some recipes:

  1. 30 g of aloe juice should be mixed with 15 ml of melted honey, 15 g of crushed rose hips and 5 drops of eucalyptus oil. The ingredients are thoroughly mixed. A cotton pad should be moistened in medicinal mixture and insert into the nasal passage for 15 minutes;
  2. leaves walnut must be crushed and mixed with Vaseline 1:10. You need to lubricate twice a day, especially at night. You can also use calendula instead of walnut leaves;
  3. An equal volume of propolis, butter, and peach oil should be mixed. To use, you will need cotton wool, which must be soaked in the healing mixture.

Inhalations

Cold inhalations can be carried out using onions, garlic or horseradish:

  • To prepare medicine for inhalation, simply chop the onion and garlic and wrap the mixture in a scarf. Inhale the aromas for 15 minutes three times a day;
  • chopped horseradish should be placed in a container with a lid. During the day, every 2 hours you need to open the container and do 5-7 deep breaths through the nose. Keep refrigerated.

For hot inhalations you can use essential oils(eucalyptus, fir), sea salt or sea buckthorn oil. Hot inhalations are prohibited during fever.

Massage

Massage is used in combination therapeutic methods in acute and chronic course diseases. The fingers should be warm, the movements should be smooth, and the pressure on special points should be moderate.

Where are the points located:

  • interbrow zone (at the intersection with the bridge of the nose);
  • outer corner of the eye (a centimeter from the corner);
  • near ;
  • above upper lip in the projection of the outer edge of the wings of the nose.

The duration of the massage is 15 minutes. It allows:

  1. speed up blood circulation;
  2. increase local defense;
  3. eliminate nasal congestion;
  4. reduce swelling of the nasal mucosa.

Massage can be used to prevent and treat rhinitis. The effect of medications can be enhanced if you drip the medicine into your nose immediately after the massage or before its completion.

Possible complications

If errors are made in treatment (incorrect dosages, short course of therapy), the risk of complications increases. They are associated with the spread of infection and inflammatory process to surrounding healthy tissue. As a result, it develops:

  • otitis. Swelling auditory tube leads to deterioration of airway function, disruption of the sanitation of the ear cavity and activation of opportunistic microbes. Symptomatically, the disease manifests itself as hearing loss, ear pain and tinnitus;
  • pharyngitis, tonsillitis;
  • adenoiditis, if inflammation covers the adenoids;
  • sinusitis. The accumulation of mucus in the paranasal cavities leads to inflammation (frontal sinusitis, sinusitis). Clinically, the pathology is manifested by pain in the paranasal area, bridge of the nose, and interglabellar region.

Preventive actions

To avoid chronicity of the inflammatory process in the nasopharyngeal mucosa, you must follow some recommendations:

  1. avoid contact with the allergen;
  2. strictly adhere to the dose and duration of use vasoconstrictor drugs for the nose;
  3. strengthen immunity;
  4. drink enough fluids;
  5. timely treatment of diseases of the ENT organs;
  6. eat healthy food;
  7. take walks in the fresh air as often as possible (in forests, mountains, along the sea coast).

The ENT organs are closely interconnected, so inflammation from the nasopharynx often spreads to the ear area, pharynx and larynx. Simple rules prevention will help avoid chronicity of the process and reduce the risk reappearance rhinitis You should not be negligent about your health, as treating a chronic runny nose is quite difficult.

Let's look at how to cure a chronic runny nose with folk remedies, medicines, by using unconventional methods.

We will also find out various non-standard views on the causes of chronic rhinitis, consider the difference between acute and chronic runny nose.

There are a few different types runny nose: one that occurs with a cold, allergies, thinning of the mucous membrane and chronic. Their treatment methods are completely different.

Today we will take a closer look at one of the types of runny nose - chronic rhinitis (vasomotor) and different ways how to cure it.

Difference between acute and chronic rhinitis

Many people confuse acute and chronic runny nose. Therefore, sometimes chronic runny nose is treated incorrectly. And they have absolutely different reasons occurrence and different treatment methods:

  • in case of acute runny nose, it is necessary to kill the infection, which causes inflammation of the mucous membrane
  • with a chronic runny nose, it is necessary to narrow the blood vessels, which cause swelling and inflammation in the nose.

And now - in more detail about acute and chronic runny nose.

Acute rhinitis. When and how does acute runny nose occur?

The nasal mucosa normally secretes 200-300 ml of fluid. with a runny nose, this volume of secretions increases to 1.5-2 liters.

Snot is a discharge that occurs when you have a runny nose. A runny nose is a reaction of the nasal mucosa to a certain irritation that causes inflammation. Irritation may be associated with the development of viral and bacterial infection, allergic reaction to one or another allergen.

There are special cells in the nose; they line the inside of the nasal cavity. These cells contain villi. When the villi vibrate, they remove all the contents from the nose.

In addition, in response to any irritation, epithelial cells secrete liquid - mucus, the purpose of which is to wash and remove everything from our nose.

From this we can conclude:

Acute runny nose is a protective function of our body, it is associated with inflammation of the nasal mucosa. Depending on the composition of the secreted fluid, the diagnosis formulated by the doctor depends.

How to determine the cause of the disease by the color of the secreted fluid

1. Transparent discharge- This sign of a viral infection, which occurs with acute runny nose and the same compartment occurs for allergic rhinitis. In simple words: if your nose is running clear water, then this is a sign of an allergy or virus.

2. Yellow-green thick discharge, which looks like pus, is a sign of a bacterial infection that has penetrated the nasal mucosa.

3. Discharge with red streaks of blood- can be observed when viral infections, with influenza, when fragility of the walls of blood vessels occurs, as well as with hypertension.

Why is it necessary to treat acute runny nose? What is the danger of acute rhinitis?

The question arises: if a runny nose is a protective reaction of the body, then why does the symptom of a runny nose need to be treated?

Located near the nose on both sides maxillary sinuses, which connect to the nasal cavity. With a long-term runny nose caused by viruses or bacteria, the inflammatory process can enter the maxillary sinuses through the anastomosis (openings). frontal sinuses and into the ethmoid sinuses, and there the brain is already nearby.
The secreted fluid enters the sinuses and causes a severe inflammatory process - sinusitis, and when further development inflammatory process in the frontal and ethmoid sinuses - meningitis. Therefore, a runny nose must be treated.
When treating acute rhinitis, it is necessary to use agents that can kill the infection, since acute rhinitis occurs with colds.

Chronic rhinitis. Different views on the causes of chronic runny nose

There are several views on the origin of chronic rhinitis.

1. Ayurveda. Alexey Makhov, adhering to the principles of Ayurveda, believes that a chronic runny nose is a runny nose for life, it cannot be cured with pills or herbs. It is associated with certain character traits, downtroddenness, when a person’s self-esteem has fallen. Watch this short video, maybe it will help you understand why your chronic runny nose is not cured.

Only working on yourself will make it possible to recover from this disease. Since, according to Ayurveda, it is located in the mind, and not in the nose.

2. Diet for chronic rhinitis. Chronic runny nose can be considered as a kind of cleansing of the body from accumulated toxins and mucus. Chronic snot is a symptom of body pollution.

3. Raw foodists about chronic runny nose. They believe that the cause of mucus is thermally processed food or boiled food. Some of this mucus is deposited on the walls of the gastrointestinal tract, and the other part collects in the lungs. The lungs, like the gastrointestinal tract, have their own system for getting rid of mucus through peristalsis. Mucus leaves the lungs and enters the nose - a runny nose begins. If we use mucus-forming products, we will always have a runny nose and mucus will be regularly excreted by the lungs.

What happens when you visit a doctor? He prescribes drops for a runny nose and the mucus stops being removed through the nose, it again accumulates in the lungs. The body focuses on fighting the elimination of toxins from the droplets. As soon as it removes toxins, it will again begin to remove mucus, but there is a lot of it and to make the task easier, the body raises the temperature. The mucus is being eliminated intensively, but we will take medicine again, this time for fever - aspirin. And again we will poison the body! And then there will be pneumonia and antibiotics, allergies and sinusitis... The body is filled with mucus, in which hordes of bacteria settle.

Please watch this video to the end, maybe you will start to feel differently about your body, like I once did. And instead of hindering him by taking unnecessary medications, try to help him - you will stop getting sick...

4. Traditional medicine . Chronic runny nose occurs as a result of dilation of the capillaries of the nasal mucosa. And here there is no need to use drugs that kill viruses or bacteria; here it is necessary to use drugs that can narrow the blood vessels and, as a result, swelling of the nasal mucosa will go away.

How to cure chronic runny nose. Different ways

As with any treatment, people try different methods to find the one that will help them cure the disease and finally inhale and exhale air without the hated snot.

The theories of chronic runny nose listed above also offer their own ways to cure it. I have already mentioned some of them briefly above:

1. Ayurveda

Work on character traits. Ayurveda believes that it is necessary to work on increasing self-esteem in order to cure the disease that sits in the head. And only then - treatment with herbs and other methods.

2. Diet without milk and flour

Those who believe that our diseases are caused by the accumulation of mucus and toxins due to the consumption of milk and flour products— offers to cleanse yourself with a diet, eliminating these foods from consumption. In a month or two, the body will cope with the runny nose.

3. Eating live food (raw food diet)

This is the most effective and radical way to combat mucus. Representatives of this trend believe that eating live food without heat treatment will permanently rid the body of mucus.

They believe that when sick, the body is cleansed, as many toxins, mucus and poisons are eliminated. And they help the body remove all this nasty stuff - viruses and bacteria. They view both diseases and bacteria as helpers. Illness is necessary from time to time for those who have accumulated toxins.

I’ll tell you about my observation, which confirms the correctness of the theory of raw foodists. As soon as a person begins to undergo regular complete cleaning body - he does not get sick during a flu epidemic, even without being a raw foodist - he simply removed what he had accumulated with phytocomplexes.

4. Drug treatment

Many doctors believe that chronic snot can be cured only with the help of medications and that ethnoscience won't help here. This is not entirely true. Of course, dripping carrot juice definitely won't help, but there are others traditional methods, which I will talk about below.

What does it offer? official medicine? She suggests vasodilators, which provide only short-term relief. Or more radical modern methods of treatment.

What is chronic rhinitis from the point of view of modern medicine?

From a medical point of view, the nose acts as a personal air conditioner - no matter what the temperature is outside, the air enters the lungs at a temperature of +37 degrees. The role of a humidifier and thermostat is performed by blood vessels located in large quantities in the nasal mucosa.

Chronic runny nose is a slowdown in blood flow through the vessels of the nasal mucosa and, as a result, weakening vascular wall. The reasons for this phenomenon are different - unfavorable ecology, hormonal disbalance, passion for drugs. Regardless of the reasons, chronic edema forms.

IN medical institution patients diagnosed with chronic rhinitis offer modern methods treatment:

  • laser surgery
  • radio wave surgery
  • cryotherapy

The purpose of such operations is to reduce the volume of the nasal mucosa. But... this does not always give the expected effect.

1. Radio wave surgery

During radio wave surgery, charring of the mucous membrane, deep burns and scarring occur, which will lead to an even more persistent decrease in breathing through the nose than occurs with vasomotor rhinitis. After such an operation, the nasal mucosa takes a very long time to recover with the appearance of a large number of crusts, which themselves greatly interfere with breathing through the nose.

According to statistics from the University of Cologne (Germany), such operations are successful in 4 out of 10 patients, the rest return to drops throughout the year - this is 60% of patients operated on using the methods listed above.

2. Session of complex treatment of chronic rhinitis

So how to cope with chronic snot:

  1. restore the vessels of the nasal mucosa
  2. make them work as before

Due to this, the swelling will go away and the nose will breathe freely. And this does not require any surgery, says Dr. Leskov.

What does it look like session complex treatment chronic rhinitis:

1. Intranasal blockade. First, it is injected into the nose medicinal product, which strengthens the walls of blood vessels. This is called an intranasal block. A very thin syringe and a very thin needle are used and the patient does not feel anything. Here's what it looks like:

2. Laser therapy. Held laser therapy session. This is not a surgical laser and its effects are also not felt by the patient. The laser accelerates blood flow through the vessels of the nasal mucosa.

Thus, the blockade and laser manage to influence both parts of chronic edema: poor vascular function and swelling of the nasal mucosa.

The course of such treatment is 6-8 procedures. Breathing through the nose begins to improve gradually, and the patient feels less and less need to drip naphthyzine or nazol into the nose. After the sixth procedure, the nose can already breathe freely and without any additional medications.

Breathing through the nose after a course of complex treatment remains free for 5 years. And this does not depend on the reasons that caused the chronic runny nose itself, that is, this method is suitable for all patients who have a stuffy nose.

3. Laser surgery

I suggest watching a video where an otolaryngologist explains when it is necessary to resort to laser surgery for a chronic runny nose and what procedures and examinations should precede this if you want to get rid of swelling for a long time.

4. Vasodilator drops

I will not consider treatment with vasodilator drops, since I consider this method of treatment not only ineffective, but also aggravating the cause of chronic edema and difficulty breathing. However, there are many descriptions of this method on the Internet.

5. Traditional methods of treating chronic runny nose

Now let's look at a few effective folk ways with chronic runny nose.

1. Aqueous extract propolis. Sold in some pharmacies and Tentorium offices. How to cook it yourself water solution is described in one of the videos in my article How to use propolis.

If you only have a 10% alcohol solution, then take the same number of drops of propolis and any herbal quality oil(olive is best), mix and drop two drops into your nose 4-5 times a day for a week. Instead of dripping, you can simply lubricate. Propolis acts as a vasodilator.

2. Honey. Perfectly restores the functioning of blood vessels and relieves swelling. But only for those who are not allergic to bee products. You can just lubricate with real bee honey, can be done honey water and drip. As an option, it is also possible to use honey with eucalyptus and tea, which will allow you to quickly get rid of a runny nose:

3. Nasal rinsing saline solution salt 9%. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt in 1 liter of water and rinse your nose regularly. Avoid stronger concentrations - this will lead to drying of the nasal mucosa.

4. Cooling your big toe with water. Alternately water with cold, but not ice water, thumb legs - 3 minutes for each toe. Do the procedure once a day until it goes away chronic edema nose

In today's article, we looked at how to cure a chronic runny nose using folk remedies at home, medications and using unconventional methods. We also got acquainted with some unconventional views on the causes of chronic rhinitis, and examined the difference between acute and chronic runny nose.
