Dear readers, today we will talk to you about eggshells. We can hear about her different opinions. Many housewives use eggshells as fertilizer, including for indoor plants, add them to pet food, and previously used them as a bleach when washing clothes. As for eating it as a source of calcium, there are both supporters and opponents of this method of use.

I read a lot about the use of eggshells, gave them to my daughters, and used them myself. I gave it to my daughters so that their teeth were healthy, and when we had allergies, and for the formation of bone tissue - after all, during the growth period in children, the need for calcium increases significantly. The results pleased me then. I will talk about them in the article.

Today we will talk to you about the benefits and harms of eggshells, how to take them correctly, I will tell you about my recipe for treating eggshells. I will be glad to hear your recipes for using it for your health.

Eggshells as a source of calcium

Eggshells contain more than 30 minerals, including calcium. It is very difficult to overestimate the role of calcium for our body. It is also important for work nervous system, and for our heart, for bones, teeth, it is also important for hematopoiesis. Calcium enters the body with food. Milk and dairy products, legumes, cereals, vegetables, fish, and nuts are rich in calcium. A large number of calcium is found in eggshells. And it is in an accessible form.

The benefits of eggshells.

Source of micro and macroelements . Since egg shells contain calcium, magnesium and about 30 other minerals, they can be used in food as a source of micro- and macroelements. In reference books folk medicine it is written: prepared for use, the shell contains useful minerals in the most convenient form for the body. Once in the intestines, the elements are freely absorbed and used by the body without significant expenditure of energy and nutrients.

Contains easily absorbed calcium . To determine the effectiveness of egg shells as a source of microelements, Soviet scientists conducted a series of studies in the mid-1950s. It turned out that about 20% of the calcium contained in eggshells is absorbed. The figure is equal to the body's availability of the mineral from calcium gluconate, the main component of chalk. From calcium glycerophosphate tablets, a little more is absorbed, about 25% of the mineral.

Prevention and help to treat health problems . Eggshells can eliminate gastritis, rickets and colitis, hepatitis and allergic dermatitis, helps quickly heal bones during fractures. Stops bleeding, disinfects the wound and accelerates the healing of ulcers. It is also good for preventing osteoporosis. It is good to use it for pregnant women and children. One caveat: for the beneficial properties to manifest, eggshells must be properly prepared.

Preparing eggshells. How to properly take eggshells?

How to properly prepare and take eggshells? You can use both raw and boiled eggs from chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, quails, etc. Some healers recommend using shells white, find it more useful. But most sources say that the color of the shell is not that important.

I remember how my parents brought us village eggs, and I also bought them in the store, which are very useful for all of us, and especially for children. And when my daughter was allergic, we switched only to them.

Recipe: Be sure to wash thoroughly raw eggs With laundry soap, pour out the contents, rinse thoroughly! shell. It is also advisable to boil it for about five minutes, or soak it in the solution for half an hour baking soda– based on 1 tsp. soda per glass of water. Then wash off the soda with hot boiled water. The shell must be dried either in a frying pan at a temperature of about 50 degrees, or calcined in a warm oven. The thin film from the shell must be removed.

In some recipes I read that you can use boiled eggs, but again there were always reservations that the result would not be as effective, so I only used raw egg shells.

It is necessary to calcinate the shell: firstly, it is transmitted through eggs dangerous disease— salmonellosis. Secondly, the calcined shell becomes fragile. The fragility is important for the next step, grinding.

And after such preparation we need to grind it in a mortar into a fine powder. The finished powder is stored in a tightly closed glass jar in a dry, dark place.

What is the best way to grind eggshells?

It is best to use a porcelain mortar or pestle. I read that you should avoid contact of eggshells with metal. However, in practice, we often use coffee grinders or hand mills to grind the shells, and as a result we quickly obtain a fine powder. Nowadays, manual spice grinders are sold, where the working parts are made of hard glass. These mills effectively replace a pestle and mortar and are easy to use.

I've always used a coffee grinder. We had our own special coffee grinder for this. It was very convenient. Perhaps I didn’t know the subtleties about the contact of the shell with the metal, but everything was crushed in a matter of seconds and then transferred to a container. I don’t think anything harmful happened during those seconds. Now let's talk about how to use it.

Eating eggshells

Mix 1 level teaspoon of eggshell powder with an equal amount of lemon or apple juice, stir, swallow and drink with plenty of water. The product should be taken three times a day, immediately before meals.

If the shell is taken to prevent calcium deficiency, the course of administration will be about 1.5 - 2 months. In case of acute calcium deficiency in the body, the main course will last about 3-4 months.

Treatment with eggshells. For what diseases can we take eggshells? How to take for children

Eggshells are applied for bone fractures and rehabilitation after fractures. Take it 3 times a day, a teaspoon. Usually the powder is stirred in water or tea and drunk until sediment appears.

For osteoporosis Apply half a teaspoon of eggshell powder after dinner, after 20 minutes. You can wash down the shells with kefir, milk or juice. The course of treatment is about 4 weeks and must be carried out annually.

Interestingly, eggshells can also be used for heartburn– you need to mix 2.5 teaspoons of powder with a glass of milk and drink.

The remedy also helps well diathesis in children. It is necessary to mix a quarter of a teaspoon of powder with a tablespoon of lemon juice, and then with boiled water (not hot) 1:1. Children are given this mixture after meals. You need to drink the course for 1-3 months. Babies from six months to a year are given powder on the tip of a knife.

Eggshells for allergies

Allergies always cause discomfort to the sick person. Moreover, it can arise from virtually anything - on food products, pollen, dust, pet fur, bird feathers and fluff, medicine, and even cold or heat.

Like other diseases, many people try to cure allergies. folk remedies. One of these means is eggshell. Thanks to this treatment, temporary improvement in allergies can be achieved. My daughter and I, when I gave her eggshells (but only after the course), saw the result: the allergy went away. Of course, many nuances are always important. But how additional remedy, I think this kind of shell treatment can always be done.

Eggshells with lemon juice

To prepare, we need egg shells and lemon juice. It is better, of course, to take homemade eggs. It is necessary to boil the eggs and remove the shells from them. Then it is washed, dried and crushed into powder, after removing the inner film. Lemon juice is added to the resulting powder until it becomes a paste. As you know, lemon juice in folk medicine is used to cleanse the body, treat internal organs and skin diseases.

Here is our recipe for using eggshells: I took crushed eggshells on the tip of a knife, poured everything into a dessert spoon, squeezed out a little less than half a teaspoon of lemon juice and gave it to my daughter.

The prepared medicine is taken daily three times a day for a course of 1-3 months. The powdered shells should be stored in a glass container with a tightly closed lid.

Damage to eggshells

Interestingly, if not properly prepared, eggshells can cause serious harm to the body.

“The harm of eggshells is known, and it involves provoking a number of diseases. The entry of large pieces of eggshell into the digestive system can cause wounds to the esophagus and intestines, gastritis and stomach ulcers, up to and including perforation (breakthrough, author), explains Lavrenty Dubovskoy, a doctor with 30 years of experience. That is, the main enemy of health when eating eggshells is poorly chopped, large pieces.

However, according to the expert, there is also some truth in the recipe. Egg shells crushed into dust can actually stop bleeding and heal wounds. About 50 years ago, cigarette ash was used for a similar purpose. Another feature of crushed shells - the binding of toxins in the intestines - is explained by the calcination and grinding of the shells. But with the help of modern kitchen assistants, I think we can all grind the shells finely, almost into dust.

And, of course, there is a danger of contracting salmonellosis. But again, if we prepared everything correctly, as I described in the recipe, and if we use homemade eggs, there will be no such danger.

Contraindications to the use of eggshells

Oddly enough, there are also contraindications. Since eggshells are taken internally and to compensate for calcium deficiency, eggshells are contraindicated for:

  • acute and chronic gastritis;
  • bile and urolithiasis;
  • excess vitamin D.

These disorders lead to painful calcium deposits in organs. Other contraindications include:

  • complete or partial intestinal obstruction;
  • cardiac arrhythmias;
  • hypertension and other heart disorders;
  • peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum;
  • diseases of the nervous system.

It is important to understand that eggshells are not a panacea. Yes, if properly processed, it can act as a source of calcium for the body. But not the only one and, most likely, not the main one. There are other sources useful mineral– dairy products, legumes, nuts, some vegetables that are safer to consume to meet calcium needs. But, of course, if you are confident in your actions and know exactly how to properly prepare eggshells, use them to your health!

And for the soul, today we will listen to a beautiful video with wonderful music. Violin and piano. A wonderful combination. How I love him myself. Give yourself a treat.

I wish you all health, harmony, joy, warmth and comfort in your families. Strengthen your health and be happy!

    Most of us eat eggs regularly and then throw away the shells, not realizing that they can be taken as a source of calcium. The calcium in eggshells is ideal balanced composition, containing also some trace values of other minerals. Many people consider this calcium to be the best and easily absorbed source.

    Many studies have been conducted on this topic, both here and abroad, which have confirmed that egg shells can be taken as a calcium supplement. Moreover, it does not matter at all what kind of eggs this shell will come from: chicken, goose, duck or other birds. The only caveat scientists call is the eggs of wild animals, which are more susceptible to salmonellosis. But poultry should also be kept in good conditions and receive adequate nutrition.

    If you are looking for a natural alternative food additives, That homemade powder calcium is an excellent alternative to store-bought supplements. It is very easy and cost effective to make.

    Benefits of eggshells

    Of course, not all people are unaware of the benefits of eggshells and that they contain calcium that is good for absorption. Many people know about this and never throw them in the trash, but use them for the benefit of their health.

    It is important to understand why eggshells can be a good and healthy addition to your diet. It is equally important to know how to prepare and store crushed shells.

    The key nutrient in them is calcium or calcium carbonate. In fact, they are made up of 95% calcium carbonate. The composition of eggshells is very similar to our bones and teeth, so it is not surprising that they promote healthy bones and teeth.

    Contrary to popular belief, maintaining healthy teeth and bones is not the only function calcium in our body. It is required to perform muscle function, hormone secretion, nerve transmission, intracellular signals, and heart contractions.

    To ensure the harmonious functioning of the entire body and the performance of all functions by the organs, we are obliged to maintain an optimal level of calcium and prevent a state where any of them begins to take it from bones and teeth for their work. This can only mean one thing: only bones and teeth and no other organ suffer from its deficiency.

    To maintain calcium levels in the blood and other fluids, bones undergo cycles of calcium resorption (breakdown) and deposition (regeneration) throughout a person's life. In children, resorption is lower than deposition, in adults their ratio is equal, and in older people, resorption is faster than recovery. Especially in women approaching menopause.

    The daily calcium requirement for adults under 50 years of age is 1000 mg. People over 50 years of age require 1200 mg of calcium daily.

    Now that you know how important calcium is to maintaining your overall health, you may want to consider taking a calcium supplement to meet your daily requirement. Before taking supplements, consider healthier and more natural options.

    Another advantage of using egg shells to replenish calcium is saving money. After all, such supplements are expensive.

    How much calcium is in eggshells

    The requirement for calcium and magnesium for growth and maintenance of a healthy body was established many decades ago. They are important for any age, from the moment of conception to old age. In childhood, calcium helps the skeletal system form and develop. In adulthood, it is needed to maintain it.

    The absorption of these substances by our body is not so simple. Most supplements that are sold are synthetic and are not bioavailable. In fact, taking such supplements can bring more harm than good. And here it doesn’t matter how much calcium manufacturers promise to provide from their product if it results in the deposition of salts and kidney stones, diseases of the skeletal system and many other degenerative changes.

    No one denies that a person must obtain the majority of all nutrients from his food. But is our diet always balanced?

    So we are simply forced to look for more natural products to support our body. In terms of calcium replenishment, eggshells can be a good source to fulfill this purpose.

    One whole medium eggshell makes up about one teaspoon of powder, which provides approximately 750-800 mg of elemental calcium plus other trace elements, i.e. magnesium, boron, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum, sulfur, silicon, zinc and others. There are 27 of them in the shell. Approximately 40 percent of elemental calcium is absorbed.

    Calcium and magnesium should be taken according to at least in equal amounts, and some people require more magnesium than calcium, depending on how much calcium they get from foods.

    1. People who do not consume dairy products other than butter need 300 mg of calcium twice daily. Therefore, you need to take a little less than 1/2 teaspoon of eggshells twice a day. Also take 300 mg of magnesium citrate twice daily at the same time. Do not take more than 500 mg of calcium at one time because the body is unable to absorb more at one time.
      However, people who consume dairy products other than butter may not need to take calcium, which depends on how much milk they drink daily, but they still need to take 350 mg of magnesium citrate per day.
    2. If you are a sardine lover and eat a whole can (contains 300 mg of calcium) every day, you only need to take 300 mg of calcium once a day along with 300 mg of magnesium citrate twice a day.
    3. If your diet includes 4 cups of bone broth each day (unlikely), you don't need to take any calcium or magnesium at all.

    It's best to take calcium and magnesium with food to improve absorption. The best absorption will be if you wash them down with sour fruit drink, compote, juice, which are rich in vitamin C.

    We must not forget that vitamin D is also very important for the absorption of minerals, fatty acids vitamin A and Omega-3. The best source of these three nutrients is cod liver oil.

    In addition, sodium and chloride (salt) are important for absorption. When consumed sea salt it can additionally enrich the body with many important micro and macroelements. In total, it contains about 84. The amount of salt per day is considered to be from 1 to 1.5 teaspoons, divided into three servings, i.e. for every meal.

    How to make calcium from eggshells

    So, let's see how you can make calcium from eggshells and how to consume them. When ingesting eggshells, it is important that they are properly prepared so that there is no risk of infection. Fortunately, it's not all that difficult and doesn't take much time.

    The cooking process is very simple.

    Boil the eggshells for about 5 minutes to clean the shells and remove bacteria.

    Important: Do not remove the membrane as this part of the shell is rich in nutrients.

    Lay it out and dry it.

    Place the dry shells on a baking sheet and place in the oven. Keep them there for about 10 minutes at a temperature of 180 degrees to better dry and kill all possible bacteria.

    You can skip this step if you are sure that after boiling the shells are cleaned and disinfected well. Drying it in the oven will make it more brittle, making it easier to further grind.

    Grind in a coffee grinder until you get a nice powdery substance. Almost powder.

    You can then store the powder in a container with a lid and use it whenever you want!

    You can grind it in a blender, with a rolling pin, placing the shell in a plastic bag, or in a mortar. The main thing is that it is well ground and does not contain pieces of shell that can injure the inside.

    In general, everyone prepares differently. If someone finds this method time-consuming or not entirely reliable, then you can use another one.

    Wash the empty eggshells in warm water until all egg white will not be removed, but do not remove the membrane because it contains important nutrients for joints.

    Place clean pieces on paper towels and let them air dry.

    Break the eggshells into small pieces and grind them into a fine powder in a food processor, blender, coffee grinder or nut grinder. Or put them in a plastic bag and use a rolling pin to crush them.

    Please note that some blenders will not grind eggshells into a fine enough grind. Still, a coffee grinder is the most reliable device for this purpose.

    Store in a closed glass jar or container in a dry place such as a kitchen cabinet.

    Before preparing the powder, you can wash the shells with natural or laundry soap and soak them in a soda solution (1 tsp per 250 grams of water).

    You can dry it in the oven or in a frying pan. No need to add oil. Some are dried in the microwave.

    How to take eggshells

    Eggshells do not mix with any liquids. No matter how much you stir it, it will still settle to the bottom of the mug or glass.

    Instead, take shell powder and pour into a tablespoon or dessert spoon.

    Add some warm water and stir.

    Take a supplement. Instead of water, you can take juice, such as orange juice.

    You can add shell powder to cocktails (again, keep in mind that it does not dissolve) and other drinks.

    Some people sprinkle it on pasta, pizza and other dishes.

    How much should I take? It was said above how much calcium is contained in one shell and what is the calcium intake rate. Based on these data, the standard dosage is half a teaspoon.

    Eggshell with lemon

    There is a second way to take eggshells - with lemon juice. How to prepare such a source of calcium from egg shells?

    Option 1. Take the required amount of powder and pour it into a small container or saucer.

    Squeeze lemon juice. It should completely cover all the powder.

    You will see that a reaction has begun: it will begin to bubble and foam. Close the lid and leave for 6-8 hours. But no more than 12 hours.

    Take the supplement with water. Be sure to take 400 mg of magnesium citrate at once.

    Option 2. According to the second option, the additive is prepared from a whole egg. It needs to be washed well. You can use soap and dry with a napkin or paper towel. The egg should be without cracks.

    Place in a wide-necked container.

    Squeeze lemon juice so that most of the egg is covered with juice.

    Cover the jar with a lid and place it in the refrigerator.

    Leave for 36-48 hours. Gently turn the egg several times a day.

    When the time is up, remove the egg and throw it away. Be very careful not to damage the thin membrane that remains after dissolving the shell.

    In order to determine how much calcium you need to take in this form, it is better to prepare it for one serving the first time and then calculate for a larger amount.

    Other ways to use eggshells

    If you prefer not to eat eggshells, you don't need to supplement your calcium, or if you have too many, here are some more tips on correct use your eggshells.

    Use for compost

    If you make compost at home, the calcium and minerals from the eggshells can make it much richer. It's better than just throwing them away!

    For dry skin

    Egg membrane is said to be very good for dry skin. Just carefully separate it from the shell and place it on the skin where it is dry. Leave it there until it dries. They say it helps with minor damage skin.

    Give it to the chickens

    Chickens need calcium. So if you keep chickens at home, give them to them. Just grind it enough.

    As fertilizer in your garden

    Eggshells can repel some garden pests. Sprinkle it around the plants.

    How effective the role of shells against pests is is an open question. But the fact that it is an excellent fertilizer, especially for tomatoes, is for sure. Place the shells in the hole before planting and let them slowly dissolve into the soil.

    Make your coffee taste sweet

    Some people think that it improves the taste of coffee and makes it less bitter. When brewing coffee, simply add some ground shells.

    Give it to the birds

    Birds will happily peck at egg shells dried in a frying pan or oven. Pour them into feeders, after breaking them into small pieces.

    Egg shells harm and contraindications

    The key to consuming eggshells and other calcium-rich foods is moderation. Egg shells are extremely rich in calcium. Therefore, it is definitely not recommended to start eating it as if your life depends only on it. If there is enough calcium in the body, then it can only cause harm.

    Contraindicated for use:

    Oncological diseases;

    Prostate disease;

    Cholelithiasis or urolithiasis;

    Exacerbation of stomach diseases and duodenum(gastritis, ulcer);

    The presence of intestinal obstruction (even partially);

    Heart problems (arrhythmia, cardiac dysfunction);

    Hypertension;

    You should definitely consult a doctor if you have certain diseases of the nervous system.

    There is a risk of injury to internal organs if the grinding is poor. To avoid this, it is better to sift the ground shells through a strainer.

    Someone may have an individual intolerance, in which case they should not take it either. If there is any doubt about salmonellosis infection, it is better not to risk it.

    While taking eggshell powder, limit the consumption of alcoholic beverages, coffee and drinks containing caffeine, and carbonated drinks.

    And don't forget that best sources all nutrients are products. Include cottage cheese, milk, dairy products, cheese that contain enough calcium.

    Eggshells are used for a variety of purposes: fertilizing the soil, bleaching clothes, feeding poultry and livestock, human consumption.

    Today, doctors have proven that eating eggshells has a positive effect on the human body, by eliminating calcium deficiency, you can prevent the development of many diseases of the teeth, nervous system, blood vessels, heart, kidneys.

    Therefore, it is very important to regularly replenish calcium reserves in the body!
