The flowers are small, the outer ones are reed-like, yellow or orange-reddish, the inner ones are tubular, darker in color, collected in single baskets. The receptacle is flat, bare. Fruits are sickle-shaped or hook-shaped achenes, winged, with a keel inside, light, tuberculate, with a spout. Blooms from June to October. The fruits ripen from August.

If you want to plant calendula on your site, the soil should be prepared in advance. In the fall, dig up the area and add 3-4 kg of manure, 40 g of superphosphate and 10 g of ammonium nitrate per 1 square meter, 30-40 g of granulated superphosphate per square meter.
To grow calendula in boxes on the balcony, it is enough to take “garden soil” soil, half mixed with plain, unfertilized soil. The soil can also be prepared from 2 parts garden loam and 1 part sand or perlite. It is useful to mix compost into this mixture.

The flowers of this plant can be harvested throughout the summer. Freshly blossomed baskets are collected by cutting at the very base of the flower. They are dried immediately after collection, spread out in a thin layer under a canopy, in the attic or in the air, but without access to direct sunlight. During the first few days, the flowers need to be stirred. Air drying usually takes a week. If you use a dryer, the temperature in it should not exceed 40-45 °C. Calendula infusions (1 teaspoon per glass of water) are widely used in the treatment of inflammatory processes in the oral cavity (inflammation of the gums, ulcers of the mucous membrane, thrush in children, alveolar pyorrhea). The gentle bitterness of the infusion causes salivation (secretion of saliva) and helps cleanse the oral mucosa. The same infusion is used to rinse the nasopharynx for tonsillitis and chronic runny nose. Calendula tincture for gargling is combined with sulfa drugs and antibiotics.
Calendula is also used for dermophytosis (fungal skin diseases). In this case, it is recommended to take baths and apply lotions (moisten gauze folded in 3-4 layers with infusion) on the area of the body affected by the fungus.
It has been established that tincture of calendula flowers inactivates influenza viruses, so it is advisable to use it as a preventive and remedy during the flu epidemic. For these purposes, prepare an infusion - 10 g of calendula per 200 ml of boiling water - filter and undilute, warm, rinse the mouth and nasopharynx.
In folk medicine, a decoction of the inflorescences is drunk as a diuretic for illnesses. Bladder(stones and sand in it), diseases of the stomach, intestines (ulcers, spasms), rickets, scrofula, as a means of delaying pathological process for cancer, for dizziness, cough, pain in the liver, to prevent miscarriages, after a bruise, for uterine bleeding, women's diseases, fever, colds, diseases caused by heavy lifting; externally - as an adjuvant for the treatment of cancer, inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity, eye diseases (conjunctivitis, blepharitis), in gynecological practice (cervical erosion), for rapid healing of wounds, with cracks in the anus, with trichomonas inflammation, skin cracks, warts , calluses, styes, acne, etc.
It should be added that marigolds have a healing effect on wounds caused by frostbite.
Tincture 25%: 30 drops 3 times a day.
Infusion 1: 10 g per 200 ml, 2-Z. spoon 3 times a day for peptic ulcers, vitamin deficiency C (soreness) and against hysteria.
Infusion 2: 20 g per 200 ml, 1 tbsp. spoon 3 times a day - use in the same way as infusion 1.
Tincture for lotions: 1 teaspoon in half a glass of water.
Tincture for enemas and douching: the same for a glass of water.
Mixture of: calendula, lavender, elderberry, mallow flowers, 10 g each; 6-8 g of mixture per 200 ml of boiling water, leave for 15 minutes and add sweet maple syrup. Take 1/2 cup 3 times a day before meals.
Tablets or powder: 1/4-1/2 tablets 2-3 times a day 10 minutes before meals.
Ointment: 5 g tincture and 10 g Vaseline (mix).
At acute gastritis the emphasis is placed primarily on the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties of calendula preparations, as well as on their ability to heal affected areas of the mucosa. They are used in courses lasting 2-3 weeks with the same breaks: the first course - in the acute period, then 2 courses to prevent subsequent exacerbations. Prepare the infusion in the usual way: pour 2 tablespoons of flowers with a glass of boiling water, heat in a boiling bath for 15 minutes, cool for 45 minutes. Take the infusion warm, 2 tablespoons 3 times a day, an hour before meals.
